Ebay Co Branded Silver and Gold Bars Game Changer Liability?

ScarsdaleCoinScarsdaleCoin Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭✭✭
Interesting that Ebay is now lending its name on co branded silver and gold bars

eBay Co-Branded Gold and Silver Bar

Minted by the Perth and Royal Canadian Mints

I wonder if this changes their liability as EBay, for its part, insists that it is not a retailer but a marketplace"the world's online marketplace"and as such is not responsible for the products offered on its site. So far, the courts have agreed.

might just get interesting.... thoughts?

Bullion is rarely auctioned on eBay unless the opening bid or the reserve is higher than melt. Can anyone show me a 10 oz silver bar with a $0.99 start and no reserve?

I just picked one up as well. Couldn't find any info on mintage, but in the worst case, a good price on 10 oz of silver!

Anyone know if these are sealed like the normal 10 oz RCM Bars are?

Ok, after getting off my I-phone and onto a bigger screen I was able to see where it describes the bars as sealed in plastic,

eBay's just a venue defense has served them well for years.
Other vendors selling items with their logo wouldn't have any impact on that, whether it's caps, shirts or bars of silver.

Currently $163.50. I'm guessing he has a shill account to make sure it doesn't go too cheap. I don't think I've ever seen a 10 oz silver bar sell for less than melt on eBay.

The RCM 10 oz silver bars have anti-counterfeiting features that make them more difficult to counterfeit that ASE's so I'm not too worried. Agree that someone will try to counterfeit them and it will be interesting to see what eBay's reaction will be.

No. John makes a good point in the O/P. Ebay is now in the licensing business if they are selling their name and "not just a venue."

Perry Hall... I was bringing it up not because of the specific item but because by branding it changes the liability and defense that ebay has used over the years.... the thread sort of got Hijacked.thanks sellitstore for getting us back on track

What potential liability could Ebay face even with their logo on merchandise being sold by a third party? They are not endorsing the quality of the product any more than is an NFL team whose logo appears on a licensed T-shirt. Is that NFL team responsible for the quality of the T-shirt?

Gotcha and you are quite correct. One of these days we may even see coins from one of the usual third world countries that make so-called commemorative collector coins with the ebay logo.image

Yup. Most of these coins have never been inside the country that is shown in the coin's design. Also, these coins aren't always from small island countries although most are. The Somali enameled guitar and motorcycle shaped coins come to mind.

Soon there will be "key word spammers" reported, selling silver while using EBAY in their title and not having real ebay silver from the Royal Canadian Mint. Not understanding the craze, but it's easy enough to swim in.

At Winter FUN, 10oz silver bars were available for $1 over spot and of course no shipping charges since you were there to pick them up. I thought that was a pretty darn good deal.

Oops, sorry for posting. I thought this was the PM forum.

UPS tried to deliver mine but alas I wasn't home.

UPS won't send my package to the local UPS Store so I will have to drive 40+ miles to the HUB to pick them up.

    mine is in Windsor, CT

they sold 6010 of them - every couple hours it seemed the price moved by a nickel or dime, do they have a program linked to the spot price of silver?

will we now get spam mail/email the rest of our lives to buy more from them?

Left Brockton, Ma., en route Who knows what the serial numbers will be ? Curious joey wants to know, as well; noticed right after purchasing at a cost of $151. per bar, the price increased to $154. Where are they now ? Price wise, not delivery time wise. Order placed on the 21st of Jan, 2016. One for each of my grandchildren. image

Price was auto-linked to spot. They just listed a third batch and removed the earlier "discounted price." Now $162.

Got mine. Very nice!! Bars are individually wrapped and numbered in the 8500 range. Not sure how they made any money with free UPS shipping. I'd buy again from them!
