    The color of the toning on the Lincoln Cent I have not seen before but I think it is pretty.

    I do not care for all of the hits/contact marks/chunks out of the rim/carbon spots etc.

    The reverse just makes me cry a little inside. It is not a pretty thing. I almost think the

    reverse neutralizes any positives of the obverse and because of that, I would not be a buyer

    even if it was in a PCGS/CAC Holder...everyone would look at the obv and say wow, then flip it

    over and say....oh.



    As for voting, I just don't know what choice to make. If neutral was a choice, I might go there.

    With all of the things I have seen, it would not surprise me to see this in a problem free holder.

    I don't like it. The color inside the ear is the same as out in the fields. Shouldn't Sunnywood's elevation

    chromatics come in to play here?

    Not a fan. Just because a coin has color doesn't make it automatically eye appealing.



    The unfortunate corrosive spots at the eyebrow and the W in WE are big negatives to me. I don't find the slimy yellow toning attractive. And the surfaces are pretty rough (Lincoln's coat collar, e.g.). The reverse is as dull as dirt. Hard to believe it's the same coin.



    I don't think it would straight grade.

    Those spots were soak and you can see the after math, burned down to the field, thats why those areas are color-less .

    The spotting makes me think it was cleaned (dipped) previously (in the 1960's). It retoned in an album - the kind with the back not exposed. I voted "Ugh" (oh, I should say "Gag"). I guess you could say NT, but with previous cleaning issues.

    I'd say it's NT.
    I voted Neutral since there is either "NT - Nice" and "NT - Gag" and I didn't feel enough to vote either of those.

    While I definitely do not like the coin........and I love toners........it looks like it has had a sordid history. I think there is zero chance that our hosts would straight grade this coin.

    The blue look indicates to me the coin has been "done."

    I think some toning enthusiasts might like it, but it doesn't look MA to me.

    I don't care for this piece. I think that the blue color came from an application of MS-70 on the obverse, and I don't care for the spots, especially on the bridge of Lincoln's nose and eye area. There is also another spot in frnot of his hair and a near damage spot on "WE" in the motto. I like copper when it is brown or R&B. I am not a huge fan of blue copper although I do own a couple of pieces with a blue tint.

    Obverse is interesting looking. Most likely cooked though.



    But the ugly flat dull lifeless reverse kills the coin (IMHO)

    The obverse was probably similar to the reverse before it was messed with. I don't find reverse unattractive. It is consistent with the overall original preservation of the coin. This is a cent from the 1920s. They tend to be not that nice from the very beginning.

    Beware of blue toning as it can be caused by ammonia or other chemicals.
    All glory is fleeting.

    It has been treated with a chemical to get that color. I don't see a big problem with the reverse other than lacking luster.

    It could grade.

    I don't see doctoring, but I do see "environmental damage" on the reverse.

    i do not. bought it cheap as a gamble.



    the luster of the obv is pretty great. i agree the color is unusual but ive seen oodles of unusual toners, of many types.



    will it grade at pcgs, idk but i think one day i will have to find out, for experience if nothing else. image

    The Philly Lincolns from the '20s are actually quite nice. It is the branch mint ones that are wretched.

    So from your comment I am thinking this is not your image? Or if it is your image how close to in hand is this look you have going on here. Lighting can really make a coin look different than in hand.

    extremely accurate, minus not seeing the obv luster. my images.



    lighting not diffused. standard 2x10 position with 2 clear reveal bulbs. same as ive used for years. i feel they give very accurate images with my d90.



    if i used 1 light or 2 lights with diff angles, the luster obv would be obvious. i thought it was fairly visible in my obv image but others arent seeing it, so i am biased from seeing it in-hand.

    I believe that it was not dipped.

    However the obverse may have seen some MS70 or something like it. I don't know for sure but the reverse is what appears to be natural.
