Seems like a strong price for an uncertified 1888 $1 Gold Princess. What do you think?

    I personally believe it to be a proof, and I think many other bidders do as well. I wasn't able to pony up all the way because I wasn't convinced it was a proof 3 or better from the images.

    I had that thought as well, but wasn't sure of that or the condition based on the pictures.

    Such a solid strike and the rim looks very sharp. Looks like a proof to me.

    I recently owned an 1888 PL G$1. Thought it might have been a proof but was not. Tough to tell from those photos. At least 2 people thought it was and paid top dollar even if it is.

    Proof or PL.

    Or fake ?

    I guess the 2 strong bidders are counting on the eBay Guarantee if anything goes wrong.

    Looks like a proof to me but grade is impossible to determine from these photos. Could be worth more, if nice. It's fairly common in both proof and MS.
    Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

    Many of these late date gold dollars have P-L characteristics, but they are not Proofs. Unfortunately this one is in a too big dime holder that has let it slide around and get marked up more.



    I don't know if this is a Proof or not, but this is not a hard date to find in high grade. I'm not saying that it is a cheep coin, you you can find these coin nice in PCGS and NGC holders. From these photos I don't know exactly what this coin is, but buying it is not an emergency.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible.
