An outlandish idea to unite the CU Forum members on a long-term project

To cut to the chase...and if this idea is stupid, no problem, it was just an idea
Would anyone here be interested in participating in creating a CU Forum Member Virtual Coin Showcase of assembling a virtual collection of every single business strike coin made by U.S. Mints?
We can work out logistics details later, maybe something like a thread on the PCGS Set Registry Forum (we wouldn't be able to use the PCGS Showcase feature because a PCGS Cert# can only be associated with one User ID), you can send pictures of coins to me and a couple of other people who might volunteer to edit them on to the same template, and we can have a running thread for all to see. Of course each contributor would get credit for the coin's contribution to the virtual project (noted somewhere in the image template)...
The rules would be simple:
We would strive for the highest graded coin for each virtual hole, so if we have an AU55, and someone submits an MS63, we would replace the AU55 with the MS63 in the virtual showcase
If multiple exactly graded coins are submitted for consideration to the project, we will have a poll for which one will be included -- talk about democracy at work
The submitter must own the coin, and if the submitter sells the coin, the submitter must notify the managers of this project so that the coin can be removed/replaced by another coin
If you have a coin that is needed, but you have bad images, you need to agree to obtain better images of your coin (e.g. no iPhone fuzzy photos, or tilt-a-whirl super angle shots, etc.)
Anyhow, all details could be worked out later, the main question at this "idea" stage is who wold be interested in participating? We can sort out logistics if there is interest...

It would be interesting to see if our hosts would be amenable to the concept of group ownership of a showcase set (not a competitive set) wherein there would be several group members, all PCGS registry set members, who would be allowed to have their coins in the group's set. A group administrator could invite people to be group members and accept requests to join the group.
It would be a neat concept that I could see several clubs wanting to use to showcase their members' collections.

A Proof Version would need to be worked on as well I think. Would the SP/SMS be lumped in here?
Hmmm, it would be cool.
Are you wishing to include all varieties/die marriages as well?...that would be an even crazier effort.

Isn't it already done in Coin Facts?
No, not really. You cannot just scroll through the nicest of all the US Coins 1792-Present. It would require the use of the back button, different windows and thousands of clicks.

This would not be judged by grade but by eye appeal.
You are looking though sorting through a ton coins and grading a lot of pieces. Just because it says a higer grade on the slab label does not mean that it is the best or a better coin. Experts differ and eye appeal counts for something.
- It would be awesome to get our hosts involved in creating the platform to allow a group to share a showcase. They are probably reading this thread and hopefully will chime in, but if the answer is a totally understandable, "sorry, we can't," then we can contemplate other approaches and as you have already contributed, we can figure the platform mechanics...no issues.
- Regarding inclusion, we might need to take baby steps as broad/wide launch of any project usually results in certain death, so my thinking was to start with just US business strike coins first, even though some people might not be able to contribute day one, cut our teeth on that, find other "category experts/owners" for say errors or patterns or proofs, for example, and then take more baby steps in expansion to other areas. Just one approach/idea...
- in terms of grade, we should allow members to challenge which coins are used to represent date/mint, and we can democratize this process easily through the use of polls and voting. If there is a dog 64 and you have a PQ 63, we can do a vote and if the members agree, we can replace. I think this should be acceptable as a starting point on this topic...so the coin in the CU Member Showcase is the one the CU Members vote (more than 50%) to represent the hole.
Gotta run for now but keep the ideas flowing. We might be able to flesh this out over the next couple days and get to a go/no-go decision.
