Another take on this topic, with some humor.

pretty hard to argue with that logic......I,m sitting on a bunch of Canadian cents that even Canadian banks no longer accept image
  • John Oliver has a great way of making a point in an extremely humorous way. There is no question the penny should go. It is only our corrupt politics and ignorance that keeps us wasting money on a useless coin that costs more to make than it is worth AND people don't use it...

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

I think Oliver is just another non-American buffoon that thinks he knows what's best for us, that we're all stupid, and he can say anything about Americans but get a pass because he's a "comedian" using satire. He's the type that keeps weaving politics into so-called comedy until he lands a spot on a network as a political commentator posing as someone that has a brain.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

John Oliver was never my favorite Daily Show alum, but he's not bad.

Except for grinding my teeth over his calling a half cent a "half penny", I LOL-ed a few times. image

This segment was pretty good- and funny- even if it took a bit too many cheap shots in the name of satire. I actually watched the whole thing.

As to the half cent/ half penny thing, he's a Brit, so he can be forgiven for that, but I'm not letting the newscast voiceover person who made the same mistake off the hook. image

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

Sorry to say, but Oliver has way more of a brain than many of the other so-called newspeople out there. He points all the stupid (worldwide, not just America), which is nowhere near the same thing as calling us all stupid, not even close.

Every other country it seems has gotten rid of the "penny" or its equivalent, except the UK and Japan.

Oliver is a dewy-eyed social justice warrior at heart, and as such, should be taken with a grain of salt. The penny isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

    Pennies forever. I hope.

Won't happen. The land of Lincoln is Illinois and their toll roads still accept the cent.

Comedy aside, where to you get your "real" news?

I get my fish reports from the boats that catch fish.

I get swell, tide, and weather reports from the scientists.

For important news I like to go to the source.
