I have actually purchased two of these in the past two weeks. One for my wife and one for me. It has its pros and cons as most anything else does, but overall they are quite a bargain.

Buying the protective case is still an extra $17-$25 which is steep. HSN had these on sale a couple of weeks ago for $50 with case, delivered. Staples I believe is offering the same complete package this week for $55. If you don't want the case, $35 is sure cheap enough. Annual insurance would run $18 for two years.... and a subscription to Amazon Prime ($99/yr) is needed to use the full capabilities of the Fire.

Dollar Stores have cases for them...

I got a soft lined neoprene case with a velcro flap for a buck.

I forgot to mention this in my earlier post. Along with the inexpensive price for the Fire tablet, you will receive advertisements on the initial lock page. They are not videos and are easily swiped away in a second. According to Amazon, the ads supplement the inexpensive price. To get rid of that initial ad, Amazon charges $15.

HOWEVER, after I had mine for a week or two, I ran across something interesting on an Amazon discussion group. If you email Amazon "from the tablet" and inquire on how to get rid of the ad, they will take it away for free. Just play dumb when you ask "how do I get rid of it"? Don't let on that you know there is a fee. When I sent the inquiry from my tablet, the ads were removed in about 15 minutes. I waited a couple of days and did the same from my wife's tablet. The ads on hers were removed within an hour or so.

You can send the email from Settings/Help/Phone & Email. They will send an email back to you stating that it was removed for no charge.

WOW, I just got mine delivered.....
I never had a tablet before. This thing is really neat. The apps that you can download are pretty much endless....Including one for streaming SiriusXM.....Of course, you need an account for that one, but it'll be nice to listen 'on-the-go'....
This is going to be fun, thanks again for posting.

I bought a Postal Scale on Amazon for $19
The one I've been using had a 3 lb. maximum and this goes up to 50 lbs.
Most slabbed coins can be mailed for 3 oz., but sometimes I need a scale for larger items and this 50 lb. max is great.
