National Park Quarters...artistic quality

I just got a Blue Ridge Parkway quarter in change. The design is rather eye-catching.
In general, I think the overall quality of the designs is much more appealing than most of the state quarters. I may even start looking in my pocket change for this series.

I agree that some of the designs have great artistic quality. I liked the Fort McHenry quarter I found in change so much that I bought the 3-coin P-D-S clad set from the mint and a slabbed silver Proof and the silver 5 ounce. The Perry's Victory and Saratoga are also quite nice.

I like most of 'em, too. I think the "framing" of the design helps.

I agree that they have had some nice designs. Blue Ridge is a good one. Since I am from Florida and have visited the Everglades a few times, I was hoping for a little better design for that coin, although it isn't bad...a gator tossed in the water swimming would have completed the scene for me but some would argue the scene would have been too busy. Heck, I was hoping for a better Florida state quarter too.

I agree about the "framing" and have enjoyed the series very much. Much better than the state quarters.

I completely agree. These are an enormous improvement of the state quarters. There is no comparison... so far.

I got a Blue Ridge Parkway quarter on October 30, the day we left for our North Carolina trip, on which we drove on... The Blue Ridge Parkway.

I agree that these are neat, but the relatively shallow relief and smallish format makes it difficult for me to see the designs.

Granted, I can't read coins without my specs these days, and even then I need a loupe for any kind of real examination, so part of the problem is me. But I think circulating commems like these would have been better in the good old days of large-format coins like half dollars and dollars.

Would've been neat if they had done this on the ASEs, I think, instead of using the recycled Walking Liberty design on those year after year. (Don't get me wrong- Weinman's Walking Liberty is a great cl*****ic design- but I'm not a fan of recycling old designs on new coins for some reason.)

I like the "Vistas of Liberty" they did on the Platinum Eagles. It would've been nice to have those on silver, where the average chump like me could afford the large bullion coin.

The designs stand out much better in the 5 oz "pucks." Now if we only could get a colorized version from the Mint for the "pucks," we'd be instep with the rest of the world.

With the Statehood quarters, the designs were picked by the individual states. Each Governor had to submit that state's design. Some held contests so that the people could pick their own design, and some were better than others. I submitted a design for an Illinois quarter showing a steam locomotive barreling across the prairie. I actually got to meet the man who submitted the winning design. The Mint touched it up a bit and decreased the amount of Chicago skyline used, but kept the gist of it.

THe exception was Mississippi, which ignored repeated requests for a design. In the end the Mint just used the state flower.

I have renewed interest in the ATBs after the big brew-ha and crash in 2010/2011. The 5 oz'ers are a very nice collectable as long as the Mint doesn't overproduce.

And yes, the Blue Ridge is very attractive!

The National Parks quarters are much better than the State Quarters when it comes to artistic merit. While they are in no way radical they are just much better designs.

I think George is a little weak on BS strike .

I also think it was a revamp for something new ....
