Look at this penny...

I've never seen anything like this:

It's diameter is about 2mm smaller than a normal penny (17mm vs 19mm)

I'd welcome any comments and opinions.

And will someone please tell me if it's worth a LOT. Thanks.

The coin has been rounded with a spoon.

I think it has been "peened" with a tool, much in the fashion that artisans use to make coin rings.

As stated above the coin has been worked on either by a tool or tapping it on a hard surface. This was done usually to make a small ring for a gift/forget me not.

The 1892 Indian cent has been rounded with a spoon. Years ago it was done by taking a spoon and placing the coin in the center and continuously moving the spoon around the outside of the coin. In the 50+ years I have been collecting, and dealing, I have seen many of these coins. Whenever winter arrives and you don't have anything better to do, give it a try.

I have an Indian head cent similar to that, I was told by an oldtimer that when sailors were on watch they would use a coin to tap the boat. And that is how the coin got rolled Don't know if there is any truth to it.

Yep..Post Mint Damage...likely with a spoon. When I was in the Navy, we would do coins,

usually halves, like this with a spoon. Long watches or quiet evenings would echo with the sound

of sailors peening coins...Cheers, RickO
