Shakin' the bush, boss.
Let's just say your boss only paid you in silver and it was worth anywhere from $12 to $20 , depending on things. i.e., value in the market , condition of the coin you got paid, rarity (mintage and population), etc.,
Would you take that chance ( this is for NON collectors )
Most the avid collectors I've had the honor of meeting over the past few years would most likely say "sign me up for minimum wage"

I would take that deal.

Paid in 90% you mean? Oh yeah!

I can not work for a boss.
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

Why would rarity be a concern if your upper limit is $20? Are you thinking the boss would unknowingly give you a 1893-S Morgan which even in P01 is worth considerably more than $20?
Your topic summary and post are inconsistent. One says silver dollar and one says silver which could be rounds, bars, ASEs worn out 1884-O Morgans, etc.
Alas, I would be fired for showing up late, not doing any work, and leaving early.
At least that's the reason my last boss told me.
Nope, but I'd certainly work for $10/hr to be paid in face value pre-33 gold.
You wouldn't want 1933 $10 Gold????

How about "two silver" dollars per hour ? Pre '36

I wouldn't even get out of bed for a silver dollar per hour.

Actually I don't know how anyone gets by on minimum wage as it is, whether paid in silver or paper.

I hear ya. I feel the same way these days but have had to do it before. There are plenty of people out there especially young that have this attitude. Most you can find them panhandling everywhere with their belongings. They call them "Homeless."

Well, if they twisted my arm I'd take it.
No one can survive on those wages.
That is why we need to get rid of all those presidential orders that are killing the economy my friends.
We need to grow the economy.
Minimum wage is a starting point for any career and was not meant to be anything else.

That’s right, minimum wage jobs are not meant to be careers.
If you grow tired of saying Do you want fries with that? then you need to get more education and training for a better job.
So education is the key.
As for panhandling, SCOTUS ruled that a city government’s law that banned how big a church’s sign could be was unconstitutional, since the same law didn’t apply to other signs and only targeted one type of speech – churches advertising their services.
The ACLU is now using that ruling to get panhandling laws declared unconstitutional because they target just one type of speech – asking for money.
So panhandlers can beg wherever they want now and the law can’t stop them.
And they do accept all forms of coinage.

Not as good, but 2015 gold isn't bad either
Yes, I work for peanuts, but I like my job and its low stress level. While my standard of living is very modest indeed, we get by, and I reckon I'm rich in the nonmaterial things that really count.
And my hobby largely sustains itself- I get money to buy coins from selling coins.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
NO, I had my own business for 31 years and the only boss I had was my wife.
You poor thang

It would take many silver dollars per hour to lure me...times change, and for those with
ability and ambition, compensation grows. For those without, things remain the same and
the whining just gets louder. Minimum wage is a starting point, it was never meant to be
a living wage. Compensation is according to skills and experience providing positive results.

There was a company out in Utah that was paying their employees at the face value of the AGE's, that was what they were reporting to the government. Of course the IRS got wind of it and shut them down. IE reporting you paid a worker $50 instead of the $800 value of the gold coin.
A dollar is worth a dollar. If a guy opted to work for a dollar per hour and I pay a dollar or four quarters , does it matter if he cashes his check at the pawn shop or the bullion store ?
Just curious. Not trying to circumvent laws. Though it's fun to entertain others' thoughts.

RIP Mom- 1932-2012
I'm not paid in silver, but my salary is pretty darn near what the minimum wage is in some places. At least the cost of living here is relatively low.

Come to Seattle - $15 minimum wage.
Dope is legal too.
I could manage fine on $15 per hour, without dope; legal or otherwise. I'd be looking at my pay, not down from a high horse.

Not everyone has the means and/or ability to get a higher education.
This does not mean they should be forced to work for slave wages (AKA minimum wage).
Every study not financed by the Koch brothers or other right wing oligarchs indicate that in the long run, raising the minimum wage is good for the economy in general and the low income workers specifically.
There's an unsustainable disparity of wealth in this country.
The GOP is still touting their failed "trickle down" policies.
This country needs new, progressive leadership, both in the Executive Department and in both houses of Congress
pick the gold or silver. Stock plans are generally a way to manipulate workers into
taking less pay really.
Allot of the poor are trying to make ends with aluminum - id think a min wage
job would be much easier than collecting cans from a drain ditch..
