Can anyone confirm if this is variety LM-5?

And feel free to venture a guess on the grade.

If it straight grades, and I am not sure that it would, but you really can't tell from photos, of course (looks like old clean/wipe ... on reverse especially), I would say VF35 to XF40.
My VF35 is below for comparison
Barndog, we need you to start a new thread on that coin & tell us more about it!
some additional information as people always want to ask what something is worth.
The past three years, I have witnessed a significant shift toward quality by half dime specialists. It used to be that nice examples of a rare die marriage would fit the bill. Still works that way for some collectors/specialists, but most of the active ones now demand PCGS graded examples.
Prices for the rarities have followed this trend. Scudzy and problematic examples of rare die marriages that are left raw used to sell for four figures some of the time. Now, it would be amazing to find a problematic R6 sell for a few hundred dollars.
In the last few Perkins auctions, we saw record prices for rare die marriages. The record prices were for PCGS holdered coins graded AU and better, for the most part. CAC stickers added to the prices realized, IMO.
For this specific die marriage, I tend to believe that the later die state examples (like mine) that have the obverse cud tend to attract better prices than the OP's early die state example. The difference could be MULTIPLES, not just 25 to 75% kind of difference! It's all about what collectors want.
I could go on about this coin, CBHD pricing, auctions, and more, but really don't have the time and without a "preview" function any longer, I have no clue how this is going to look and I KNOW that it is a PITA to read paragraphs that are not visually broken up (since I shy away from posting much since the changeover to the "improved" forum)
The other reply bunches it up.
It's frustrating.

Nice half dime. I collect H-10 too, working on the 1929-1837 set now with varieties .
Welcome to the forum! You picked a nice series to collect, the Capped Bust half dimes from 1829 - 1837. Are you collecting 'varieties', as in the Red Book, or are you collecting die marriages, as outlined in "Federal Half Dimes 1792 - 1837", by Russell Logan and John McCloskey? Either way, you will enjoy the series.
I need to learn how to up load images here.
I have two 1830's one is the coin in question above that I believe to be an LM -12 obv. 4 rev. J (R-6).
An 1830 LM -5 obv.-1 rev.- J (R-6)
An 1829 LM -13 obv.-6 rev.- G (R-1)
An 1831 LM-7 obv.-3 rev.-M (R-2)
An 1832 LM-12 obv.-5 rev.- X (R-2)
An 1835 LM- 8 obv.-4 rev.-DD (R-2)
An 1836 LM -2 obv.- 1 rev.-. FF (R-3)
The 1836 has an die crack on the obv. That runs through the obv. From 11k-5 passing on the west side of the 6.
I'm sure a later die state on the obv. Die.
