Bet those 1930s pieces escaped from some kid or grandpa's collection, simply by virtue of the fact they're a tiny bit less worn than you might expect of a coin that circulated 70-80 years. And somebody took the time to clean 'em.

It's been a while since I stumbled across one that old in change. When I do find one, it's usually from the early 1940s or late 1950s, of course.

PS- I like the '48-S. Despite its technical issues, that would've put a smile on my face if I got it in change.

Maybe somebody grabbed a handful from their penny jar at home.
Yes, they're cents, but they become pennies when put in a jar

Pre-40's from straight change are tough! Do a couple of $25 boxes and you'll find a few here and there, but most are 40-58. Looking through rolls is a nice evening diversion.

If you live in Massachusetts they a probably mine. I had 2 bags stolen(along with many other coins) most likely they were dumped into a CoinStar

A local coin shop hands out these wheaties in change along with nickels from the 40's and 50's.

i like handing change over when paying and putting some earlier type coin in with the group

an as i'm handing it over say something like, "oh, look, a wheat cent."

I rarely see them in commerce anymore.

Let alone 'S' mints here in the Northeast. In the early 60's my uncle John moved to San Fran and would send my brother and I shipments of 'S's'.

Even at that, I had to buy the 1955 S from Littleton for 15 cents.....Fifty years later, I can almost get my money back.....

Nice change finds.... I pick up at least two wheaties a week... however, it has been

months since I found an S mint wheatie....mostly 40's and 50's... Cheers, RickO

have not found a wheat penny in change here of late

the most current is the 1954s found two weeks ago

seems these coins are getting tough to find in change but that is the thrill of looking though

pocket change as you never know what could be lurking within the change

Last night our the Racine Numismatic Society meeting (some of us get together before the meeting) I noticed a wheat back in the "take a penny" tray. I just left it staring wheat side up. I wondered where it would go next. It is nice to see them now and then, as they can spark interest with some kids.

Hmm, perhaps that explains the sudden increase in old coins in circulation up here.

Although, my local coin shop puts the corroded wheaties back into circulation.

Did you have circulated buffaloes and V nickels ?

yesterday after buying a soda, I received a 44-s cent and 62-d dime in change. The first silver dime in a long time.
