New aspect of DSR's on eBay

I went to leave FB and saw this new bit of information:

Keep in mind that detailed seller ratings aren't anonymous-sellers can see the individual ratings they receive.

I wonder if a new wave of retaliation will occur when sellers see who left them 1 stars?

I've never cared for the DSRs. I think feedback was enough.

Last night I put an item up for auction on eBay for the first time in many months. Had to struggle a little to cope with the changes.

At least eBay warns you that the sellers can see the DSRs. I'll have to keep an eye on my seller dashboard and stuff. A lot of it is unfamiliar since I'm only an occasional seller and they love to tinker with their site and change stuff.

I think it is a risk for buyers.

If you left a low DSR for a seller, they could get mad and block you and you'd never be able to buy a coin from them again.

Yep. It's a wrinkle, for sure. So you say it's a new wrinkle? I never paid that much attention before, and thought they were anonymous. (Did there used to be a note to such effect?)

I think DSRs are not much of an impact for a certain segment of sellers, and for some segment it's a big impact. I use eBay to primarily sell of my duplicates, or coins I no longer have interest collecting. They are all PQ and most of them are CAC.

    - I list the coin at a price commensurate so that weeds out bottom fishers

    - I offer no questions asked 14 day return

    - I ship everything next day (sometimes same day) USPS Priority with Insurance

    - I always pay for shipping (free to the buyer)

    - I leave feedback immediately once the buyer paid (that is their only obligation, and I don't hold out my feedback as ransom until they receive the coin, that pisses some buyers like me off).

It's really a simple formula...with maybe two to three hiccups all year.

Just my 10 cents on the topic image

I don't get a discount of ebay fees so DSRs do not affect me that much, even though I almost always offer free shipping.

MercuryDimeGuy and I do the exact same thing. I even say in every listing that I don't beg for feedback, that's for the buyer to decide. All that stuff will take care of itself.

If you had reason to leave low DSR for a seller, why would you want to buy from them again?

I don't care what my DSR ratings are as I do not go after the ebay discount because I charge for shipping because shipping wasn't free the last time I asked for free shipping from the postmaster and he said wtf.

I do NOT offer free shipping on 90% of my items.

I do NOT leave feedback until feedback is received 90% of the time.

My DSR appears to be just fine. 5 stars all across. 100% positive.

I just do business as usual.

I don't get any discounts though as I only sell 10 or so items per month.

If a buyer dislikes an experience with a seller enough to ding their stars over it, I should think that the buyer not returning is a foregone conclusion... so blocking them is like closing the proverbial barn door after the horse has escaped.

That aside, a toolbag buyer usually leaves negative FB before dinging stars anyway- and that's normally why they get blocked by sellers.

Ebay quality of buyers declining.... if blocking buyers solves issue? ...need to look at operations to see if seller ratings are correct .......

S&H fees used to be part of the DSR's, but no longer. 14-day or longer money-back return policy along with same-day or 1-day handling along with transactions having tracking uploaded within handling time and validated by carrier.

    Ok news to me.

As to returns, I have the belief that a auction is an auction and not an approval service, thus I have a no return policy.

Ebay is now holding sellers responsible for the Postal Service's performance! I have 2 dings on my shipping speed due to usps being slow. 1 was shipped same day and the 2nd was available for pick up in time but the buyer waited 3 days tp pick it up!

Sounds good in theory but whether you want to be or not, by listing items on eBay- as long as the buyer pays via PayPal funded by a CC, you are a de facto approval service.

    Of course I know that.

    But .......

It discourages the guys that get into a bidding wars and gets buyer remorse.

Every once in a while I get an email from a blocked buyer wondering why they can't bid. Yes I block buyers who leave low DSRs, and I've been doing it for years (even when the DSRs were masked, it was possible to figure out who left them). I think all business is a give and take. People can make mistakes, but outside of something egregious, I think people should get the benefit of the doubt. All I ask is that if there's an issue, I have the chance to make it right before feedback is left. When a buyer dings me with no contact at all, I can't make it right, and I now expect them to be potentially unreasonable in the future. The fee discount is worth way more than any bidder is going to net me, so if a buyer identifies himself as potential trouble, that's it. If I were selling on my own site and not beholden to eBay or PayPal policies, then I might not mind difficult buyers, since they'd have to play by my rules. But with the power a buyer has over how my business gets run (and the costs I pay), it's one strike and you're out. I just can't risk doing things any other way.

Good point about not buying again if you are leaving low DSR’s. I’ve just never seen the warning message before so that is new.

But starting in February buyers input no longer matters. Negative and neutral FB and DSR ratings will no longer matter, and that is the way it should be.

The discounts will only be given based on 3 metrics:

    Transactions canceled by the seller

    Cases closed without seller resolution

    Slow shipping time

Shipments will only be considered late when:

    • Tracking shows item was delivered after the estimated delivery date, and there’s no acceptance scan within your stated handling time or there’s no confirmation from the buyer of on-time delivery, or

    • Buyer confirms item was delivered after the estimated delivery date, and there’s no acceptance scan within your stated handing time or there’s no delivery confirmation by the estimated delivery date

DSR program encourages reputable sellers to keep customers happy by giving those sellers a fee discount incentive. Ebay leaves wiggle room to allow for a small percentage of buyers who will never be pleased.

These really aren't fair at all. The first one, I've had to use when something gets lost in the mail. I refund the buyer and cancel the transaction to get my fees back.
The third one is generally out of my control. I always ship the next day. I had three or four shipments this year take as long as two weeks.
The more things change on ebay, the more they stay the same. Power to the buyer only......

If there is an "acceptance" scan within your designated stated handling time, you're ok, even if it takes 2 weeks for delivery. It's obvious eBay recognizes occasional postal delivery issues. Use eBay's generated shipping label and make sure item is mailed by the date on the label.

This is not true with the new system! I just spoke with ebay about it yesterday. Now is the time for sellers to complain or it will go into force.

Did eBay do away with the "Did your item arrive by such and such a date?"

It hasn't been there for me the last several times that I left feedback for a seller?

If so why did they do away with it?
