BS is what I say. Bank did not begin as 1st Natiional Bank of Reno until 1929. Hmmmmm, a cc trade dollar on one end some 60 years after they were released??
Nah, I call foul.
Will go to the moon if ebay lets it.

Thes roll scams are really angering me as of late and I just figure I would try to do something if I can.
There was a thread the other day about why there seem to be so many thieves in numismatics....looking at the bids on the sellers items I would have to say (and kindly) because there are so many knuckleheads in numismatics. I learned long ago that a free lunch is not going to happen and it seems a lot of folks still have that lesson to learn. Unfortunately it is bad for the hobby as a whole IMO.
Just a couple of random thoughts...

Rare original unopened!!!
Previous mention of xray analysis of a roll for modern signatures.
Next, recovery of DNA from nooks and crannies of coins struck in 1795. Identification soon thereafter.

Furthermore, the business strike Trade Dollars were demonetized by Congress in 1878, so no commercial bank with a reputation to uphold, including The FNB of Reno or even Farmers & Merchants NB would have placed Trade Dollars in to paper wrapper rolls, even if they existed that early. The general public completely shunned Trade Dollars by 1878, with the exception of a small segment of the public in and around San Francisco.
And In conclusion - the simple fact is that the technology and demand for roll wrapping machinery for coins was non-existent in the 19th century and well into the 20th century.
BTW - I've written a lengthy guide blog regarding bogus claims of vintage paper wrapped rolls in the eBay U.S. Silver Dollars category, if anyone should care to review it and comment - or add your own guide. If ebay chooses to ignore the shameful practices of these sellers, about the best thing one can hope for is to educate the masses as directly as possible - in the same venue where they are shopping.

One of the non CC rolls just closed at $2,700 or so.
If I didn't have morals, I'd be a wealthy man.
Thank God I do and that I sleep well at night.
