Ron Landis, hobo nickel carver, engraver extraordinaire, and founder of the former Gallery Mint Museum, is undergoing bypass and valve replacement surgery Wednesday morning according to a post of his on Facebook. Send your well-wishes, good vibes, and prayers his way.

    His surgery was yesterday. He posted this about 15 minutes ago on Facebook:

    "They did a double bypass and new heart valve. Everything went smooth. I'll post more when I feel up to it. Thanks for all your prayers and good thoughts."

    October 5 update:

    "I've been cut up, have chronic back pain, COPD and haven't slept more than an hour or two in the past four days. but the operation worked better than I could have imagined. They gave me a transfusion tonight and I feel more like 16 than 61."

    Initially, the update sounded grim...pain...discomfort...sleeplessness, then sounded a whole heck-of-a-lot better towards the end of the sentence.
