So it's gonna' be a little dark on the Moon tonight, huh? How about some light up there. Here's a piece (and a pic) from my collection. The piece is a light bulb that was ON the Moon in the Apollo 12 Lunar Module. It is called the Lamp Assembly. It was part of the Crewman Optical Alignment Sight (COAS). The COAS was more or less what the astronauts used for a Heads Up Display (HUD) back in the 1960's, when they were attempting to land on the Moon, or when rendezvousing with the Command Module after lifting off from the Moon. I've attached pix of what the full COAS looks like. FWIW, the COAS is located above Conrad's head in the signed picture.
I pulled my 6" Refractor out and watched at low power 38X. An amazing sight. Later found Uranus and pumped power up to 188X and seen the small pale blue disc. Neptune was located too, very small greenish blue disc.
