It's been a good week for the mail here. Took advantage of 4_sharp's 15% everything earlier this week. Everything except the Frank Robinson cards came from them.
Jim Palmer - Even though I already had PSA 10 examples of both 1981 and 1982 Fleer, they weren't particlarly strong, and these represent nice upgrades.
Frank Robinson - First cards in a while for this set. Corners on the '61 are touched up pretty good, but I love the card.
Brooks Robinson - This makes 4 Brooks cards so far, and it's amazing the difference in his face from his early cards (I have '60, '61 and '64) to this one.
What a ton of great stuff here to peruse while procrastinating.
The 57 Ted K is a classic baseball card and that's a super high end example of it.
Two great photos in those 93T cards. I remember Nokes so well, esp his 88 Score card and 88T cup.
Never saw the 70 Oscar card before, and that colored background really pops. Almost Warhol-esque in a way.
The Murray RC is such an awesome card. One of the very best of its decade, IMO. And it's so hard to find a nice one. 300H and 500HR, plus to get a full-face RC in that era, plus to get it with a great photo with a fresh on the eye composition, and then add the AS-Rookie cup for good measure...just awesome.
The 59 and 58 Micks are outstanding; focused, centered Micks are fewer and farther between these days.
The Elvis card is really cool, unique image.
Then 82F Palmer-- what a photo. I think both Jim Palmer cards and the whole 82F set are kind of slept on.

Got this card in trade over at Net54. Very happy to have it. it fits in my lower grade but solid centering/good eye appeal which is what I am focusing my collection on.
Doug that is a stunner! Is there a hard to see crease/wrinkle that is keeping that card from a higher grade? It presents beautifully! '

Wow, Jim, you've already knocked out 17 Topps Mantle cards?? You completed his basic Bowman run too, right? So are you only a 52T away from a 100% complete Mantle basic registry?

Just catching up on this thread after a week away. Some great stuff being added. I love the Eddie Murray RC. That may be my favorite RC from the 70's for all the reasons DM23HOF mentioned. Manny, those 1957's are incredible to look at. That is one of the toughest sets out there to find in high grade, between the centering and registration/print issues. You must be happy to add a Beantown legend to the set. Dan, those Brady cards are awesome. I need to pick up a RC sometime soon. I like the look of the card in the bottom right, what set is that from? Doug, looking forward to seeing your next centered Mantle Jim, you are a collecting machine. Great additions to your Mantle collection. Now for the 52! Here is my latest addition. I have this card as a PSA 7 in my registry set, but I have been wanting to upgrade it for a while. Although I think I overpaid a little for it, I am happy to get it to add to my Jerry West PSA 8 from earlier this month. If anyone has a PSA 8 Wilt or Baylor RC they want to sell, let me know.
Some more pickups this month. My father and I have been talking more about the athletes he admired and loved growing up. This group has a heavy hockey flavor as he is a die-hard Rangers fan and grew up watching the GAG line.

I found this tidbit from Wikipedia an amazing, tragic story- "Lou Fontinato was a rugged defender and the most feared enforcer of his time. He started his career with New York during the 1954-55 season. The following year, he led the NHL in penalty minutes, the highest total ever at that time.[2] He also led the league in that category in 1957-58 and 1961–62 (with Montreal). With the Rangers, Fontinato and Gordie Howe had a running feud that culminated in a fight at Madison Square Garden on February 1, 1959, in which Howe broke the nose and dislocated the jaw of "Leapin' Lou".[3] Fontinato was eventually traded to the Montreal Canadiens for Hall-of-Fame great Doug Harvey at the tail-end of his career. Great looking Oscar Robertson Cards being showcased this month. Here is mine a 1972 beauty that I just picked up for a very good price. It is nice to see some vintage basketball being posted. West rookie and a 2nd year Alcindor card. A lot of great looking cards being posted.

Well, I don't buy a lot, so this month turned out to be one of my larger buying months in quite a while. I was able to get THREE Mantles this month. I already showed the '64 Stand-Up and the '58 Topps. I have been looking for a nicely centered '54 Red Heart in low grade for some time. When fellow board member Steve Lum gave me the opportunity to buy this one I had to do it. I paid a "5" price for it, but I don't think I will ever find a better looking "4". THANKS STEVE!!
The other players, beside MICK, that I collect are Seaver and Reggie. I was able to purchase all 13 of the following cards for less than $90.00 delivered from 4SC. I had to get the Strawberry DNA, as it was only $9.00. The Strawberry was included in the less than $90.00 purchase price.

Doug, I was sad to see the Red Heart leave my collection. The only thing that made it easier for me was knowing it had a perfect landing spot in your collection. I am biased but I think that is the best 4 you will ever see for that card. The centering tops most 7's and 8's I've seen. Congrats on all your pick ups for the month.

technically a july pick up but just got back from psa. absolutely love this card for the back:
normally these are blank backed stickers however this one was in the album and removed...
upon plucking it someone inadvertently removed some of the album, which means on the reverse/opposite side of the album paper it had "hecho en venezuela"
which is what is normally written on other regular topps veni cards. have seen a baker's dozen or so of these, but it's the first w/ this type of added bonus
some might view this as an eye sore and almost certainly hurt the technical grade , but I personally think it makes the card!
I haven't been on here in awhile and just went back a few pages...amazing mantle additions and some other beauties as well. This has easily become my favorite type of thread as at my young age of 45, I'm still seeing things that I've never seen before!!!
