The Hershey Candy Co. and the U.S. Mint dropped the ball 6 years ago...

Hi guy's, I was eating a Hershey's chocolate bar and began to read some advertisement on it. It was concerning Milton Hershey School. What caught my eye was the year that it was founded. Yep, 1909! To me, someone in either the Hershey's Co. or the U.S. Mint's PR department should of put two and two together. In the year 2009 where it was the centennial year for both the Lincoln Cent, as well as, the Milton Hershey School. They should have honored and promoted
together with a " Chocolate 1909 Lincoln Cent ". This would have probably boosted the 2009 Cent and also Hershey's Candy Co. Oh well, maybe we'll have to wait for the Bicentennial celebration? One more thing... Is it me or did Hershey changed their recipe? To me it doesn't taste the same. Let's not forget what the school in general has done for all those kids!     I for one wouldn't want a collaboration between private industry and the US Government in the name of making higher profits for Hershey. As for the taste, I believe that Hershey quit using cocoa butter in the chocolate
    process and replaced it with a cheaper ingredient. I was working for Mars Chocolate at the time, and they were using this information against them in the advertisements. I can't tell you what they are using today, that has been
    4 or 5 years ago.

    Yes, I thought it wasn't the same. All companys seem to go in this same direction. Let's downsize and raise prices. image

    Hershey sent a lot of their production out of the country.

    There is a famous Numismatist that worked for Hershey's for 40 years. Anyone know who this is??

    Hershey removed cocoa butter and replaced with a chemical PGPR. This means they now make "chocolate candy," not "milk chocolate."

    Now that I think about it, the US Government did the same thing to cents in 1982. It removed most of the copper, and replaced it with a creamy zinc filling. So maybe the appropriate cross-promotion would have been a genuine chocolate candy with a genuine copper cent, with the slogan "get the real stuff now so we can go back to selling you the cheap knockoff next year."

    lets take a minute and applaud all the US presidents that helped send our products (and jobs) to other countries where they can be made much cheaper, and with less taste
    regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

    Yes Dentuck, that is who I was referring to. Got the wrong company though. Bill shared that at the LA ANA
    show a few years ago. I was working for Mars Chocolate at the time, who by the way, still uses cocoa butter
    in their chocolate.
