Resident reported that she was the victim of fraud incident on eBay and needed a police report generated. The victim advised that on 08/20/2015, she sold a 1906 $20.00 gold coin for $2,575.00 on eBay to the user name "Naschmidty". Shortly after, the victim received a confirmation email from PayPal stating that the funds from the transaction were received and to ship the item. The victim shipped the item to a Charles A. Smith in Oceanside, CA. After a few days the victim noticed that the $2,575.00 was not in her PayPal account and opened a fraud investigation with eBay and PayPal. It was determined that the suspect was able to send the victim a fraudulent email posing as PayPal. The victim stated that eBay and PayPal are continuing their investigations into this incident.

That is why, when you get the email from PayPal, you should log into PayPal and check to see if the payment did indeed occur.

If the email was fraudulent, clearly the buyer is the one who created the fraud. Hopefully, eBay and PayPal will resolve the situation in favor of the victim, and throw the fraudster off of eBay.

The victim should also contact police in Oceanside, CA and file a complaint against the buyer. Maybe if the police show up at the guy's house, the situation will get resolved quickly.

my safeguard is to print packing slips from paypal w/o exception. this ensures someone doesnt just mark an item as paid.

still a few other ways to work the system and those require different modus operandi.

And verify that the Ebay auction listing has the "paid" icon with it.

That's one thing I like about shipping with eBay's shipping label. The item would not show awaiting shipment if it had not been paid and verified via Paypal.

I always log in to PayPal and generate the shipping labels from that location.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

This for me also. How dumb can someone be to not check if they actually received the money? And as stated, it won't even show up for shipping labels.

The fraud does not surprise me, what surprises me is that the seller did not 'confirm' the funds prior to shipping.... that is personal dereliction....Cheers, RickO

I still do not see where eBay did anything let alone commit FRAUD. Your title is nothing short of slander of a business that is helping the seller recover from deceit.

    Just noticed this to....

Way I read eBay committed fraud. (object to title of thread)

eBay is not the bad guy all the time in my view it seems that way in most threads written on here.

I don't read it as the OP is blaming EBay for the fraud. The term "EBay fraud" is used in the context of EBay being the mechanism for the dishonest buyer to execute the fraud. But, since the fraud occurred outside of EBay/Paypal, I don't think a fraud investigation with EBay or Paypal will achieve anything. Law enforcement is where the complaint needs to be registered. The fraud was done buy the buyer directly to the seller.
