That 1840 1$ is bad news.
  • I'll guess the last one, the 1840.

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

The bullet hole in Liberty's torso is certainly call for an X-Lap (and possibly an autopsy) but this is one of those common "gashed shield" fakes with the gouge through the I of LIBERTY.

Probably real but harshly cleaned. Hard to tell from his pics.

The 1840 Silver $1 is an obvious fake. You can see a raised blob of metal on the obverse in the upper right corner. Of course there are many other problems with this coin.

The 1840 dollar is definitely bad. I am not a fan of the 1856 dime, but it's probably okay.

The 20 cent piece looks genuine to me.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

the 1856 dime is actually a half dime, the flat obv denticles for that date are the rule not the exception, making them appear to be fake

  • I reported the 1840 dollar as counterfeit to Ebay. Others should also report it because I think numbers count. I sent an Ebay message to the seller about the coin likely being counterfeit, but I haven't received any response.

  • I heard back from the seller. I bet he bought it at a very good deal. I looked in sold auctions and couldn't find his coin being previously sold. Either he bought it awhile ago or this is his cover story.

I need to report this to eBay. I bought this on eBay and obviously got taken. I am going to look up the seller and report them. thank you for letting me know about this.
