I'm sure enough people will complain that you could order TWO coins, not just one, that soon we will have to enter a raffle to get 1 coin/set from the mint.
Too many folks in the country with entitlement-itis.
This still wont stop the games.....big dealers will have proxy buyers, or, in the case as mentioned on another thread, will buy on your account for their gain.
IMO, stick with the 5 sets per HH and just let it sell out in 15 minutes. If you want one, you will be online and ready to go at the opening.
Not to worry. Our regular forum greedy pigs, you know the ones...the ones who ONLY come around to get information for flipping and to share how they were able to purchase hundreds ("family and friends") and are using the BST, as well as ebay, to sell to those locked out, will be on here for them.
They won't be in other threads sharing any knowledge/pictures/or camaraderie. They will just get in, and out, of the flipping/information threads on these and order way more than they should. I respect the dealers that buy from those that ordered them. I don't respect those that go out of their way to get multitudes for flipping....particularly when they use these forums for information and dumping of the product but do NOTHING to become part of the community.
Assuming the Mint website is functioning as before, the Ike will sell out in about 30 minutes instead of 15. Following the usual round of complaints, the household limit for the remaining coins in the series will be reduced to 1.
Why not instead just increase the mintages for the remaining reverse proofs in the series? If the Mint truly aspires to operate like a business instead of a bureaucracy, they should try to match increased demand with increased supply instead of resorting to rationing.

In the early 1960's you had to order by mail and any orders received before the opening date were not filled. You then had to wait 1 or 2 months before even getting an acknowledgement, and another 2 or 3 months before getting your proof sets. The limit back then was 5 sets, and they usually made 2 or 3 million of them.
It didn't stop human nature because people still wanted to game the system thinking they might score "big".
If the Mint considered this a real problem, the Mint could fix it in a minute. It's not rocket science. I think they would rather have the turmoil over scarcity to pump their own stuff.

<< <i>"Quick sellout" is too long a word to say for how long this issue will last. >>
i think the 2 per will make it last a bit longer....it may even go to day two.....maybe......or not >>
Then don't forget how the mint likes to say they are unavailable but then the next morning they will be up for sale again for a limited 15 minute window, then the following day, etc etc etc.
<< <i>Do you think it meaningful that the Mint removed the "found only in this set" from the Ike set RP description???? >>
I have not yet looked at the Mint web site. But if that is true... that may change everything. Sounds like they may be considering minting more, now that they realize how popular this first one was. The set may still be worth picking up, but certainly won't have the same appeal as the Truman. Also... that would mean the Truman is the KEY.....

From what I understand, the Kennedy Coin & Chrinicles Set was bumped from 20,000 to 40,000 sets which pretty much kills any flipping (or freaking? ) opportunities.
As for all the disparaging remarks on flippers? It's a business folks and people make money off of others desire to have hobbies. TPG's, coin Dealers, Coin Shops, Big Businesses, Magazines, even some coin forums. Everybody has their hand out and the smart man will recognize that it is what it is and there ain't any point in whining about it since the only thing that gets accomplished is that your blood pressure rises. Just get over it.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

It may become akin to last second bidding on eBay with the necessity for speed and cleverness.

The Mint knows, albeit intentional or not, how to generate "inexpensive" interest more than any other entity in coins.
You can tailgate or pre function the party with the UHR, for a bit more skin.

I'm feeling very discouraged today. I offered a coworker the surefire way to profit a bit on these
coins - no interest.
I offered to pay her upfront to be my strawbuyer - still no interest.

I'll try for my 2. Forget all the BS associated with getting more.
