Potential for a CAM or the coveted DCAM?

morgansforevermorgansforever Posts: 8,510 ✭✭✭✭✭
After looking at a BST listing with bids up to $6k, maybe I should take a better look at my sets.
It's no 68 DCAM, but there's contrast between device n field. Will the blueish appearance of the reverse turn off the graders?
Would a quick dip clean up the blue haze on the reverse?

    CAM? I dunno. Maybe?

    DCAM? I don't think so.

    Not my series, though.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

It does not appear DCAM in that picture.... of course, it could just be the photography.... It likely would get CAM...Cheers, RickO

There appear to be some areas with surface issues. E.g., obv rim 3 o'clock, Kennedy's jawline, reverse between L and A in DOLLAR. Reminds me of PVC scum. I would dip it, yes.

    Looks good as a CAM.

Post dip images. 5 seconds in the dip, lengthy acetone rinse, into distilled water then pat dry with a paper towel.
Same shooting/lighting config, 1/200 f8, iso100. I think it cleaned up nicely, how about you?

Yes, it looks better, was dip full strength? 5 seconds is awhile.

I'd think it would CAM. Looks like a nice coin. I'm surprised the spot on the reverse at 5 o'clock came of as well as it did.

CAM yes, but not enough white frost for DCAM I think.

Nice. Almost no one understands that it is the blackness of the mirrors that determines DCAM, not the white of the device. CAM for me.

Maybe at NGC. Not at PCGS:

PCGS Grading standards for Deep Cameo.
    DC: Deep Cameo | Close
    1950-1970 Proof Coinage

Heavily frosted devices on both the obverse and reverse, with no areas of the main devices unfrosted.
Heavy contrast between the fields and devices.

    Nice looking coin.

I have never tried to grade a Kennedy.
I think the spot on the obverse would hurt it a little.
Based on my own criteria (which means nothing in the grading room) I'd give it a 66Cam.

Anyone out there, familiar with the series, with a grade opinion.

I used the e-Zest dip non diluted, didn't know you could dilute it. What's the recommended dip time?

cam is possible on this example...not a lock...is my take
if it doesn't acquire it...surely it was due to the mint luster in the field

goodluck if you submit and update us please

    btw
i just had a 1966 kennedy land sp66cam at the beginning of this month
    2nd one this year

You guys can use the word contrast, I'll use the word "black fields"! I have had some of the whitest frosted Franklin's you have ever seen. Fields were silver rather than black and CAM came out every time. Black and white baby, that is what it takes!

The bath cleaned it up nice, so I would say Cameo not DCAM.

    I think its a cam.

Here is a 1966 in 67dcam for comparison. I was told I paid crazy money for it 15 years ago at $400. I simply smiled.
