My first Capped Bust Half ... I finally took the plunge

I've always liked the Capped Bust half dollar design and history.
So, I thought having one would be a nice addition to my overall collection.

This seemed like a nice start, so I purchased this one earlier this year.
Wanted the first year of issue for this variety to start out with.
Looking forward to adding another date down the road. Enjoy ...

iPhone pictures taken by hand, I can post the grade and full slab later.

See post #14 below, for obverse slab and grade.
Thanks for all of the great post and information.

Nice coin, nice color, nice date. Be careful, these things are addictive.

You picked a tougher variety for your first. It's the small stars.

Nice one; and I wholeheartedly agree with what hchcoin says. I got hooked on these big old coins a couple years ago. I've finally finished a complete date set. Now, I'm starting to get interested in Overton varieties. I'll probably be in Heaven before I get them all. In the meantime, I'm sure enjoying the search.

    Gotta love em.

Nice start on collecting the Busties. 1808 should be easier to find. The 1808/7 would be the most interesting marriage.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

    1807...what a cool year for a first CBH !
You should try to acquire the rest of your set in chronological order, just for fun image

Wonderful! I love that you started with an 1807. Most folks who test the CBH water start with an 1830's coin...nothing significant, something cheap...a safe, no daring example. The early CBH's are the treasure. WTG!

Well, I was teased and tempted by her baby sister in the series.
I thought a first year of issue would be nice.

Thanks to everyone for all of the comments and knowledge you share.
These things are amazing coins. Not necessarily my coins (or images), but the series.

1807 capped is an underrated date, nice pickup and great start - eventually you will trade up for the 07 bearded variety

Well almost five years latter and I'm still at it and having fun.
I'm trying to put together the date set in circulated grades below AU.

I finally purchased the key date fairly early in the pursuit.
Not as the only coin left to get, like my Lincoln set, missing that darn 1909 S VDB.
I will fill that hole one day.

The pictures below are of my CBH purchases over the last year or so.
I picked up the 1815/2 just last month.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

It's been known to happen. Bust fever is REAL! :s

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
