Do eBay Bucks deals help or hurt your collection?

The whole purpose of a SALE is the make you spend money that you otherwise would not have.

Ending today is 5x eBay Bucks, which equates to 10% off a future purchase.

If this happens when you were going to buy something anyway, they are great.

If you're a flipper on eBay, then you're going to give up 9%-12% when you resell it.

If you're a collector, then you can wind up buying something you REALLY don't need or spending money that could be used for something you do need.

The coins on my want list don't match any good coins/deals listed on eBay at the moment, so I'm going to have to pass this round.

used wisely, the deals have helped my collection and helped my wallet (there are coins to be bought that can be resold for more, if you know what to look for)

The 10% eBay Bucks has a max per transaction of $100. So the maximum item you can get the full 10% is only $1,000. Might be OK for modern coins, but no great deal on rare coins. I will pay more attention when the 10% applies to the whole banana.

In the rare case I find something I am interested in on eBay, the eBucks help to make the value equation actually work for me. Most times if the quality is there, the price is not.

I feel like nobody buys any of the BIN OBO coins I have listed when ebay has their ebay bucks deal. But the day after the extra ebay bucks goes away, A BIN coin of mine will get sold. I've had this happen countless times... very strange

It happened again with me tonight. I searched for (PGCS,NGC) with BIN and saw some I'd be interested in. All had OBO and since midnight was deadline, I wouldn't buy or make offers on those because the seller is telling me I can buy it for less.

With one offer once I saw a coin I really liked and took a chance making an offer 10% back and fortunately for both the seller and I, they had an automatic accept set on the coin and I was able to use my eBay bucks. But otherwise Best Offers are skipped over without bothering to even look closer.

It is all about timing. There is ALWAYS something to spend those $'s on, it just may not always be coins.
