What would you do? Resolved.

This is really not much of a problem. Bought a $30 coin on Ebay yesterday. Maximum bid was $33 so I was happy about that.
Also was getting 10% off from Ebay Bucks. The shipping fee was listed at $3.22. Everything was considered in my maximum bid.
When I went to pay the shipping fee on the invoice was $5.44. I contacted the seller and asked him to correct the shipping fee.

I got a message from him stating the shipping charge in the auction was an error and that $5.44 was the correct amount. I have to
pay by tonight or lose the 10% Ebay Bucks. The question is do I pay the new amount or tell him no thanks, I'm not paying for your
mistake. I have a lot of the item and don't need another one.

It's really your call, but I'm just like you - I hate paying $ for someone else's mistake. I bought a coin a month ago and the guy accidently sent me the wrong coin. I politely told him it was a different coin and filed a return request. The guy calls me a liar and says to return the coin anyway. What a class act, it costs me $2 to return the coin and I restrain myself from saying anything rude to him in response... and believe me I had a few choice words I would have liked to say to him image

2 courses of action, as things are described, to me:

    1) I still want the coin, total was within what I was willing to pay. I pay. I get coin. I NEG the seller for changing shipping fee AFTER the fact and AFTER it was listed for the entire time.
    2) I go to ebay, tell them the issue, and I refuse to pay. The 10% expires, but that isn't cashback, that is ebay bucks and it is only $3 anyway. You need more than that to even get ebay bucks with the quarter ends. I would still NEG him for what he has done. I would NOT communicate that either, so it couldn't be seen as "extortion" at all.

Note....I am usually very much against giving NEGS and I can't recall giving one in over a decade on ebay. In this case, I would unless he came down to the promised/listed amount without me having to do anything else.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

You state your maximum bid was $33. and are thus happy you won at a lower amount.
Take the amount you "saved" and apply it toward the extra shipping cost and you're still ahead of the game (according to your own math).

Pay for the coin and if it arrives as expected leave no feedback whatsoever.

A neg over this infraction takes away from the credibility of the feedback system.

I agree only to terms of a sale that are put before me before I buy... not after the fact.
    When in doubt, don't.

I'd just tell him to keep it. Five dollars and change to ship a $30 item is bull....!

I had a guy bought 2 coins last night. I sent him my usual thank you note after he paid right away telling him I'd combine shipping AND then ship both at my expense.

    Next time buy from me.

Does this seller list similarly priced items for $5.44 shipping or is he just using that as an excuse to make up for a lower selling price?

I would tell him to pound sand. A deal is a deal and when it's over a buck or two, that really ticks me off.

If you call eBay, they will "educate" the seller, and assuming the deal doesn't go through at the original price per their rules, they will give you a one-time discount of 10% on any item up to a $30 value.

TJM965, I understand your frustrating as this little petty stuff people do also irks me.

I just messaged a seller who I know lost money but charged me $6.00 for Priority 2 Day shipping and decided to send it 1ST Class instead.

I guess he saved $2.00 but I now need to wait 5-7 days to get something I was expecting to get in 2 image

Yes it is especially if the seller does this on the regular. Scammers count on the fact that people are to lazy to complain over a dollar or 2. I would say the shipping is inflated and require the seller to honor the listing. After this I would absolutely leave feedback about what the seller did and low star the shipping.
Why should a seller get a way with things like this? This is exactly what the feedback system is for.

I didn't know it was possible to invoice the shipping at more than it was stated in the auction, is it a heavy item that will cost more than the original amount to ship ? not what it SHOULD cost but what it WILL cost. ebay has empowered buyers ... some of whom have NO experience with shipping costs .... to determine what is a fair shipping cost.
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

Just got a revised invoice for the original amount. I paid it within 3 minutes. Thanks for all the responses.

Sounds good to me. You might want to update the thread title.
