eBay eliminating 1 and 3 day auctions
Spring Seller Update:
A $1 special duration feature fee per listing for sellers who choose 1- or 3-day auction-style listings. Charging this fee will help discourage the use of shorter durations where they are least successful.
In other words, you cannot sell at market for 1 and 3 day auctions. They have to begin at under market prices or else eBay will charge you a dollar if it doesn't sell.

<< <i>Moral of the story : Ebay loves me and wants me to pursue happiness. >>
They did mention that in their update
But on an even brighter note, they will be eliminating the 40c surcharge for 10 day auctions.
I've used 3 day auctions for bullion and some generic proof sets since people tend to look at these items in ending soonest order but I think the longer the auction runs, the better it is for the seller.
That is going to make Sunday evenings even busier as I suspect most folks doing 3-day auctions will switch to a 7.

<< <i>I'm going to assume their statistics show longer duration auctions make more money FOR THEM. This is quite annoying. I just did a 3 day'er to get some quick cash. >>
Since eBay makes money on final value fees, the higher the sale amount, the more fees they get.
One would have to suppose that is a good thing for sellers as well.
How many pages comprise the ebay rule book now? More to come, I'm sure. Crazy. I only have five more items to sell, then I'm done, if they don't sell, that's OK. The changes in ebay since 2001 are staggering. I'm out.

eBay never ceases to come up with annoying policy changes. For commodity type items,
1- and 3-day auctions are usually more than adequate for bringing full value to a seller.
Why penalize the option to get paid faster?
Here's a coin I bought in the shop today and some South Dakota "black hills" Tax Free Gold.
Don't tell them in Pennsylvania , Indiana , or Minnesota that some of us are still having fun, though. They might stop liking me.

Are you in a mind meld with Ricko? He didn't reply to this thread.
I like some of the changes . They cut the number of free listings per month. I would like it if they got rid of them all . As a buyer , I'm sick of wading through junk listings . As a seller I'm tired of my items being buried by the junk listings as well.

Take an Excedrin there, Topo.
Just trying to cite Ricko's constant criticism of ebay in threads being not for him, ebay is not for me either, anymore.
Whatever.

^^^^WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER^^^^^^^
This should prevent a couple of reknowned sellers from dumping the same listings on eBay every 3 days!!! I know it turns off a lot of people........
I guess UP-date means less.

worse than junk listings.... is the out the moon ridiculous ask prices on many of them
<< <i>eBay may finally be getting the message regarding too much clutter. What they really needed to do was to reward sellers with high sell through rates and penalize sellers with low sell through rates. >>
That's been part of the seller rating for a while now.

Put yourself in the bidders shoes, you might bid $79.99 (opening bid) on something that's a sound buy only to have to wait 6 days just to get blown out of the water in the last 2 minutes. Not fun.
Bringing more visibility and value to your listings
Dear [ME],
eBay is introducing changes designed to improve the health of our marketplace and make it easier for buyers to find the items they want. Read about the changes in detail.
Fee updates encourage use of listing formats and durations for greater selling success
To improve the visibility of sought-after merchandise—and help sellers increase their sales—eBay is introducing a number of updates to eBay's listing fees and features on May 1. Changes include:
Unlimited insertion fee credits for listings that sell in auction. As an incentive for using the auction-style format successfully, sellers will be credited for the insertion fee on auction-style listings when that item sells (exclusions apply †).
Adjustments to monthly allotments of free listings. eBay will update the monthly allotments of free listings*—zero insertion fees—for both eBay Stores subscribers and sellers without an eBay Store.
The 10-day duration on auction-style listings will no longer have an added feature fee. Sellers can maximize visibility and enjoy our longest duration for auction-style listings.
A $1 special duration feature fee per listing for sellers who choose 1- or 3-day auction-style listings. Charging this fee will help discourage the use of shorter durations where they are least successful.
Reserve price will increase. This feature fee will increase in price to the greater of $3, or 2% of the reserve price (the minimum price that must be met for your item to sell), with a cap of $100.
See all updates to fees and features.
Achieve Greater Selling Success, [ME]
Based on these changes, you could have the opportunity to achieve greater selling success by taking the following actions prior to May 1:
Consider listing fixed price more often, especially for items that have a clear market value or when you know the price you want for your item. List auction-style for premium items when the value may fluctuate, when price is unknown, or when there is intense buyer demand for a limited item.
Modify your listings—the price, title, and photos—to increase the likelihood of a sale. Search sold listings on eBay to find recent market values.
Choose longer durations, as the longer a listing appears on the site, the more opportunities it has to be found by buyers: 7- or 10-day for auction–style—now with no feature fee—and Good 'Til Cancelled for fixed price listings.
Increase visibility for your items with product identifiers
Later this year, sellers will be required to include certain product identifiers, such as a manufacturer part number (MPN), on new listings of branded items in new condition within select categories.
The additional identifiers can increase your item's visibility in search results on eBay and across the Web, and help shoppers find and purchase your items more easily. To take full advantage of these benefits now, be sure to include product identifiers every time you list.
Category and item specific updates
As always, eBay continues to update Categories and Item Specifics to help interested buyers find your items quickly and easily. Check to see if your listings are affected.

<< <i>I don't mind at all if 1 day auctions go away. They are frequently a tool of scammers who list fraudulent items with short durations in hopes of attracting a buyer without attracting eBay's attention or ability to respond quickly enough. >>
Lest the natives get restless, once again over something that's NOT true. It makes "Drama Class" fun, though. It's been pointed out by a few, but this TTT is for those who don't read any deeper than the title of the thread.
All due respect, to fair reporting of "the news".

i read yesterday in a message from ebay about all kinds of stuff but re: the 1/3 day listings auction format, i understood that the fee charged for those
durations of auctions will be refunded if the item sells. that takes a minor sting out of it but i'm still miffed as i really burned up the 1/3 day auction format
listings because i could use them, fee free (listing) to move a few things between show/shop trips week-to-week.
that $1.00 per listing adds up over the course of 30 or even 365 days.
just sayin'
.
But if they start low and go they will still be free.
<< <i>Similar to some of the other comments, my assumption is that, at least in part, this is to discourage the overpriced junk churn. Sellers realize that they get more visibility when they show up near the top for "newly listed" or "ending soon". So they just churn overpriced junk on 1 or 3 day listings so they show up well on both of those sorts. From eBay's perspective (and mine) this can crowd out more legitimate items that customers might actually want to bid on. >>
my thoughts exactly. Smoe seller does (did?) that just about every day in the two categories I regularly watch. Made it easy to scroll by quickly, since all their photos were alike.

Like "Promo" in the category I puruse?
It is borderline nauseating to read ebay's reasoning for making these changes. For one a small seller with no store now has only 40 free listings per month instead of the previous 100!
And if you are a store subscriber at the basic level you now get 150 free listings (fixed or auction) and a second batch of 100 free auction listings which makes it a good deal for the basic store subscriber.
The main reason for these changes is to make more $$$$ for eBay on seller insertion fees, or to vastly boost the number of ebayers using a basic store which costs $15.95 per month with a one year store commitment.
I really do like the store concept and for me it works. but I can imagine smaller volume sellers really being pissed about these "great" changes.
As usual eBay does what is best for eBay despite what they say.
I think small eBay sellers were getting too creative at avoiding selling fees and this was one way to stick it to the little guy!!
They would just use their basic 100 free listings during the month and then lay low in the bushes till eBay announced one of their mid month specials for more free auctions.
Hey, isn't that the American way!!
