<< <i>Great coins. Hate the label. CAC reviewed them. >>

So based on these photos it seems CAC approved NONE of those that have been pictured in this thread?

Also, for those that viewed the 1793 MS67RB Wreath or 1793 MS65RB Chain...does anyone agree with the grades or RB designation?

Just curious about the findings for those that have viewed them in hand.

I can't say that I am a fan of the gold labels either...but who really cares about the labels when you are holding those amazing pieces of history?

Besides all of that, amazing coins regardless and it will be a lot of fun to follow the sale. image

I saw the 1793 Wreath and Chain cents and I had asked Greg from Stacks about the RB designation and he told me that for cents from the very early years there didn't have to be that much red to call the coin RB. I'm not sure I understood that but nonetheless that was his explanation and as far as the grades go, I can't imagine anyone being able to compare these coins to those of slightly lesser grades, such as a 65 or 66 Wreath cent or a 63 or 64 Chain cent to say that the grades on the holders are accurate.

I can only say that if you have a chance at viewing any of the Pogue coins in person at any of their locations prior to their auction, definitely do so as they will likely not be seen again for many years to come other than in pics on CoinFacts or in auction catalogs. They are truly a sight to behold!!

Actually, Stacks had the coins reholdered so they lost the CAC stickers. The majority had been stickered by CAC. I suspect that they will get them CAC again.

IMHO- the 1793 cents are fairly graded - there were others that are slightly undergraded. Having said that there was a gold CAC on the gold label and that was funny seeing at FUN.

I didnt think the coin grades were max out. The coins are amazing - simply the best ever!!!!

Lastly, yes there are 2 books written by Dave Bowers on this collection and I saw them both. I believe a 3rd book is expected as well.

It is going to be VERY interesting to see the deep pockets collectors and dealers at the auction. This collection will go for a boatload of money when it is all totally up. A flood of the very best and rarest coins in our history. I live vicariously through these auctions as my net worth does not allow for the ownership of any of these coins, yet I appreciate them as much as anyone who manages to be able to afford them.

The usual suspects from this board will have a lot of fun deciding what to bid on.

I totally agree with you that these coins are going to sell for a boat load of money and beyond the means of many coin collectors. I guess that is why Stacks is partnering with Sotheby's so they reach beyond the coin collecting community. That's great news for us collectors if more coin collectors enter our hobby, then its a win-win for all of us.

I'm just amazed that these coins have survived in this condition for so long. They are the ideal realization of the work of the designers, engravers and workmen who produced them. Thanks for the reports and images!

Just insane coins - I had no idea the caliber of this collection before.
Never even heard of the collection before.

I can just dream... because, even hitting Lotto won't pay for what I
would like to buy from this collection.

    You have a 1794 $1 in 66+
    An 1804 Class I $1, 1792 H10, other rarities

But these are that collection of similar quality coins with that highest eye appeal

    It's a dazzling collection.

Recently, for all those that focused their energy on the Pogue holders - sure enough Stacks and PCGS changed the holders. While I enjoyed the gold label, they changed it to a very classy silver label. We speak, they listen!!!!
Personally, I think that the PCGS labels are absolutely gorgeous!!! Oh, BTW - I was always focusing on the coins and their beauty. The Pogue coins that I viewed are all absolutely great. There are so many favorites that I am not going to list them here. My least favorite is the 1807 draped bust quarter - a blasted white coin - not my preference - you guys can have it.
Below are the new holders for your compliments (no more negative comments permitted)image

I do like those new labels better.

They tried hard to buy the Eliasberg 1807 MS67 quarter to replace that coin. They just didn't figure it at market level.

TDN- so yours and Louis E. 1807 coin Pogue passed and you sold it to Simpson - that's what Coinfacts report - I don't play in that league but IMHO, if I had the Pogue financial resources I would have upgraded my 1807. While its a high grade, it really doesn't match their set - Your coin would have fit right in!

The new labels look fantastic! Huge improvement! I think they decided to swap the labels just so they could handle the coins again. image

Minor as it is, the new labels are much better.

The other ones seemed a little tacky.
    These are classier.
