Looks like you are ready to start your Morgan set now.

On a serious note, this is one incredible accomplishment. It would be a real pleasure to see all of the dollar sets displayed together.

    Bruce,

Can you share with us the reason behind having sold the set in the first place, and what led you to now desire to reacquire it?

Congratulations on the purchase in any account. You are certainly acquiring an historically notable set.

I had no idea that TDN was in charge. I knew he had a piece of Legend but always thought just as an investor.

Anyway, what a wonderful set of coins and congrats to TDN and Legend on the acquisition.

    Congratulations!

Of the coins that "TECHNICALLY" have finer known examples in the PCGS Pops...and for the ones that you AGREE with of course...if some of them became available, would you entertain the idea of improving the set or is the set done? Or have you already seen all of the "finer" examples to determine that they are not for you?

This is a great question and actually one that requires a new train of thought for me. Whereas before as an individual set I paid whatever it took to buy finer examples even within the grade, now it is part if a much larger dollar set. Accordingly, each opportunity will be weighed on a cost vs stature basis - to the whole set. I have already declined a couple of opportunities to upgrade the set where the cost outweighed the small increase in quality - rather the funds will be reserved for future use such as acquiring a gem early dollar or two from the Pogue Collection.

There are definitely seated dollars out there that will improve the set. But they must be weighed against better opportunities now.

Thanks so much for the reply. What is the status/plan for the 1870-CC? Did you have one before and now need to replace it?

IIRC, the PCGS/CAC MS63 1870-CC was replaced by an MS64 coin that didn't cross or sticker. When the opportunity came to sell the set, the buyer preferred not to buy that new coin but rather to wait for a PCGS/CAC example. One never came along in seven years!

Lol. Sometimes, opportunity is more important than price. And in rare instances, both align.
