Many here think of me as more of a medal guy. I will admit, I do love a nice 19th century bronze.
I do love U.S. coins as well. I am fortunate to really enjoy nice circulated coins. They fit my budget and I'm happy with them.
I'm the kind of guy that likes to see a Gobrecht in 65 but if you gave me one I'd probably sell
it and buy a nice circulated example.
I look for coins that have a certain look and mark free surfaces. I usually buy them when and where I find them.
I recently decided to try and actually put them into some kind of set. I find I have multiples of some
and am lacking in other departments. I will be adding more as I find them but wanted to share what I have.
Please share your thoughts, good or bad.

I tried to shrink the pics, hopefully they are large enough to appreciate.
I didn't want to be forever known as "The Guy" who shut down the forum completely.

    That's an attractive and well matched set. I like how even the AU-ish pieces have that even grainy dirt.

    That is truly one of the most appealing and well balanced type sets I have seen. That is the kind of coins I like also, they did their job in commerce.

    I'll add my congratulations on a very appealing start to your type set. I would part with my type set at the very last if I had to give up my collection, I've really enjoyed it and I'm still updating it after playing with it for 35 years! Very enjoyable!

    Wonderful surfaces on every coin, your patience in assembling such a set shows.

    I do like the matching Roosevelt, Washington, WLH, Morgan and Peace, etc, instead of having "higher" grades on the easy pieces

    Another coin you may consider adding (along with CoinD's draped half) is an 1807 or 1808 (or 1808/7 image) Bust half....
    They are oh so close to being a Type of their own !

    Blasphemy!!! That is the reason I posted duplicates. I am undecided on a couple.

    I could never sell that one though. I am looking for a with motto example but I'll have to keep the '47.
    That is my favorite coin. Great surfaces, not a mark to be found. Nope. Can't do it. image

    I really appreciate all of the kind words.
    I will be adding coins as I find them. I sometimes have to restrain myself.
    I could fill many more holes tomorrow but I wouldn't be happy with them.
    It seems like these coins have disappeared in the last couple of years.
    Coins with this look are getting harder to find.

    Excellent. Nice uniform look. I think the 1837 half dime and 1916 Barber dime are particularly attractive circs.

    PS- just had another look. I really, really like the appearance of your set. That 20-cent piece is also very nice.

    Heck, they all are.

    You've got an "eye" for great circulated, "bread and butter" collector-grade coins.

    Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
