    I would guess 58 too, based solely on the wear on the reverse. If it turns out the wear on the reverse is just due to a worn down die, then 62 or 63. The obverse looks great.

    I had a comparable that I bought as a choice AU raw, that later slabbed MS61, so that's my guess.

    PCI holder? I'd guess they had it at MS62, but looks like 58 to me, mainly because of the reverse.

    It's graded AU55 in an old PCI holder. It can get AU58 no problem, but I believe it will get MS62/61 when I send it to PCGS in a future submission. I've had good success with flying eagles... my first one I bought was an 1858 for $28 raw on ebay last year, and that one graded AU53 with PCGS. This is the second one I've bought, and I believe it was $213. I can't afford the 1856 to complete the set though... ha

    Seems like they are right on with 55. I was seeing it as uncirculated with a poor strike. This seems to be e a good example of market grading. I would value it lower than a nice AU-58.

    You don't really want a '56 though. Too common to justify the price.

    You're spot on. If I had the money, I'd much rather buy an 1858 pattern... so much better than a low grade 1856!!
