    The underlying digits that get displayed in the round window must be on a rotating disc inside the coin.

    It's been halved and this disc inserted?

    I am sure it was meant to be carries, but what functions the numbers performed escapes me. And why the blank space?

    Pretty cool. A good addition to a set of Trade Dollar oddities along with the potty dollars, box dollars, opium dollars etc.
