Crossing short set at PCGS Vegas: need advice

I have shown one of these before, the other two are newps off of ebay last week. I have decided to cross them over to PCGS. I know some wish I wouldn't and I respect that. Having said that, I have some questions as I have only submitted two times for grades, and only 4 coins for crossover.

I have these three:

I paid low NGC MS66 for the half. I know it is dark, but it has beautiful color in hand and I suspect the green label will continue to darken it and I don't want that.

Here is the dollar. I paid NGC MS64+ for it on ebay.

The quarter eagle is here. I bought it off ebay in an auction that stated no returns accepted, had blurry pictures, and closed at 1:30am Pacific Time. I decided to roll the dice. I paid NGS MS64+ money for it.

I tried crossing the half at MS66 previously and it did not cross. I have the following questions. Thoughts would be appreciated.

1. Should I crack them out, or submit them holdered?
2. Do you think the half would cross at all? If so, best guess at what grade?
3. Was thinking that I would put a minimum on the dollar of MS64 and the quarter eagle of MS65. What are chances that they will cross?
4. Should I submit them with no minimum other than not to cross them as Genuine Details?

Cross them at their set grades or leave them be. Why take a downgrade and economic loss?

You can put minimum grade you will take and if PCGS does not think that they will make your grade then
they don't crack them out and you get them back.

Dangerous game, I do not know the values for these coins at the current or lower grades so I'll only say that the half looks very dark which in many cases subdues the luster. It's my opinion that PCGS loves coins with intense luster at 65 and up so my best guess is that your looking at a one or two point down grade. Again I am not familiar with the values so you may not lose much or you could be in for a bath. If you must have these coins in PCGS plastic my advice is to sell these and buy them in your plastic of choice.

Agree with what has been said. Keep the older holders too as they are often more marketable than the post 1998-2002 stuff. Some buyers like those.

Do what makes you happy,,,, if you don't like them in NGC holders then deceide at what grade you would want to take them in PCGS Holders.

I personally think they look good for the grades and if you try cross at the same minimum grade and they don't then you can you still have them in the NGC holders.

I personally would give it a shot.

a few thoughts:

-seems to me you have already decided on the "grades" by the price you paid. If you do cross them, ask that they be crossed no lower than the price/grade you paid for when you purchased them
-older NGC holders tend to be marketable
-have you considered sending to CAC? A sticker may very well help you achieve increased marketability
-depending on how "brass" yours are, cracking out may be a good way to go. You have never seen the rims and are assuming they are as minted, so you got to ask yourself, "do you feel lucky?"

Grey NGC boxes are inexpensive and readily available on ebay. Those coins would fit nicely in one if you go that route.

Those fatties are nice and the grades are good. I would leave them be.

If you want them in PCGS plastic, the question is, what reason are you doing this? Are you trying to set them up for resale or maximize your return, are you delirious of a Registry Set of this short set or do you just prefer them to be in the standard of our times, PCGS? Knowing that makes the answer simple.

My thoughts:

1) I would only try to cross those at grade.

1a) If they failed (and possibly even if they succeeded), I would likely try to flip them, potentially for a profit.

2) I would also wait until PCGS runs one of their crossover specials. There is one
at Long Beach, but it sounds like you won't be there.

PCGS has a crossover special right now, only $10 if a coin doesn't cross.

If you truly like these coins, I would leave them as they are.

If you feel you need something better, I would sell these as they are and undertake a search for the coins in PCGS holders if that is what your objective is.

I see these as attractive coins and the plastic is secondary.
