Hypothetically speaking of course

Lets say 400 RB/RD UNC 1909-S VDB cents are discovered and the hoard find is announced publicly instead of moving them into the market one at a time quietly...

What impact do you feel it would have on pricing

Also would collector demand just absorb them

I would absorb at least one of them. I've been waiting to find a nice 65 RD, but only seem to come across 64s.

yet for whatever reason it is
collectors will absorb them up too

That's a coin the transcends a single collecting class. In the case of 400 r/b/rd being released at once I would suspect minimal impact on pricing, and they would be absorbed. There's already a lot to choose from, I don't see an additional 400 making a great impact. It's a rare coin by mintage standards, but it certainly not difficult at all to find MS examples. That's what I suspect at least, purely hypothetical of course.

Not a Lincoln cent collector, or a dealer so take it for what its worth, but pricing for this issue is driven by high demand, not so much short supply, so I would prognosticate only a slight hit on prices.

The 1909 S VDB, is already overpriced given its survival rate. For a "scarce coin" is available at every show big and small - because its over priced. 400 more would not change thing.

I agree that the impact on price would be minimal, at least on the long term. There may be a short term dip I would speculate.

Didn't we have a OMR or two come about about two years ago. I seem to remember someone on eBay selling 64's, 65's and even a 66 I think hand over fist. Just that little bit caused the prices to decline. Considering the coin is not "rare" by the standards we use for most other coins, even small finds could have notable impacts.

The 09-SVDB has one of the highest survival rates of any coin ever minted.
And most of them are currently for sale. Just google it or check ebay.
This coin defies the principle of supply vs. demand because of decades of hype.
Another 400 in the market means that most dealer, instead of many, now have one in stock for sale.
But the price remains the same, or very close.

The demand for this coin is very broad and deep. Unless they were all high grade
any impact would be minimal and short lived.

I would expect to see a drop in prices, the prices for this coin have been on the downturn (not much but some) for awhile now so more inventory should depress the prices.

Yes, Drove down 64/65RB prices 20% or more. Four hundred would have a noticeable impact if they were dumped at once.

Prices will drop for the short term. It
will later stabilize and continue to move
upwards in the long term !!!

Initially, there will be a negative price impact... likely not severe... it will then slowly return to present levels... this coin has 'name recognition' and all new collectors seek one.. as well as established collectors who move between coin types/series .... Cheers, RickO

I think this has already happened. I watch prices on these because I have a customer who loves em, and we have seen the prices fall some 15-20% on grades 62 thru 66 in all shades of red thru brown.

I also believe this past year a partial original roll came into a shop in the mid west as well, not to mention other rumor mills about other hoards.
