Boeing Show Report - gotta beat Bochiman, SwampBoy and SeattleSlammer!

Drove town to Kent after golf this AM for the Boeing show. Attendance was strong - hard to even find a place to park!

Had already received a few texts from Bochiman as to where the collectible holders were located!

Alas - all were from prior shows and overgraded.

Coin shows have become more of a social thing for me lately and this show was no exception.

Swampboy surprised me with a license plate! I'm always on the look out for him at garage sales as he collects them. He thought I might like this one for the nugget in the pan! It was a very unexpected surprise and much appreciated!

Seattle Slammer had a Morgan that was literally dripping with luster - I'll let him post it but it was a real treat to see. Even though it's a overused phrase, this coin fit it perfectly.

Showed Bochiman, Swampboy and SeattleSlammer my new Saint and I think they agree that it's properly graded as a MS67 - you just can't capture the luster in a photo.

Ran into a few non-forum friends and garnered an invite to a coin-weenie dinner. One of these guys has 441 of the 450 draped bust halves needed to complete a set - and the remainder are virtually "NC" they are so rare. If it was large cents, the coins where only one die pair is known would definitely be NC.

Didn't find any collectible holders or coins I needed but did run across this which seemed cheap at todays bullion prices. Not a great looker but more of an investment since gold has been on sale relative to it's high. Seems many other dealers present are buried in their gold and were asking crazy prices.

With the SeaHawks playing tomorrow, most dealers I heard talking will be vacating by 11AM. If you're a collector, don't bother going tomorrow.

Had a nice chat with Sego regarding his new sticker service. He was willing to give Bochiman and I applications and said other forum members are welcome to apply as well.

Left around 2:30 into the deteriorating weather that will hopefully pass through before golf tomorrow and the Seahawks game.

That's interesting as I too last week, came up on some gold that I thought was a very fair price.

2014 proof buffalo pr69 pcgs. For 1360.00
2006 1oz gold eagle for 1299.00

Also came across 1882cc Morgan gsa with box and papers for 175.00 and at least a 62 if not a 63.

Now the funny part was all the rainbow toned stuff was way over priced . Lol

Agree with you on all points...parking was harder than normal (even in the overflow) and there was a good, strong, crowd there.
No pics from me yet, as everything is in disarray at home due to moving rooms around with the kid recently (kicked me out of my home office so he could have it for his bedroom/homework area since it is 2.5-3x bigger than his old room, and I am trying to organize everything in the much smaller room...things we do for almost teens

Was great meeting up with you, Swampie, and SSlammer! Though, I never think I am short until I am around you 3.
Was hoping to somehow bump into Dave99B, but haven't met him before so wouldn't know who to look for.

Love your Saint, from FUN. Totally great looking and agree pics don't do it justice, same as for SSlammer's morgan..that thing is jawdropping in person.

I gave Sego my application before I left. Have some SAEs that I will probably submit at some point. Looking forward to seeing how it all goes, going forward. Good luck to him.

After you left, I wasn't too far behind, but was buying a few raw Jefferson's for my son's dansco. War years. As I was sitting there, a woman walked up, looked around quickly, chatted up the dealer saying she "likes to buy proofs. All proofs. Years don't matter". She had an interesting look to her but I was busy so didn't pay THAT much attention.....until she asked the dealer if he were going to Bob's show in February and would be setting up. If so, that is the show she would be buying at. She made sure to repeat that a few times.
Dealer was from Spokane and first time setting up here. He had a perplexed look as he didn't know who "BOB" was.......I informed him later

On the way out, she was at another dealer's, loudly telling him the same thing.....she was taking cards now and wasn't buying...would only be buying at "BOB'S SHOW" next month.......

All kinds of shills in this business I guess

As you mentioned, some of those doilies have been in the same dealer's case for over a year (common, lower MS grade morgans/franklin, marked $250). Interesting way to handle inventory

Ride home sucked as it was raining and traffic on 167 was terrible.

Nice report Lakes, you are indeed fast on the draw. Thanks for showing off the killer St. G 67--it looks pretty much mark free in-hand with smooooooth fields and strong luster. That rainbow SLQ ain't too shabby either.

I enjoyed the show. Sold a dozen raw coins for fair money (common gold 2.5s, common but eye appealing Morgans, and a couple other odds and ends)...frankly it was nice to not get [prepare to be hosed sucka]-type offers. Spent a pinch of the dough on a 1893 Chicago's Fair/Columbian Expo matchsafe that is just cool looking, and one PCGS DMPL Morgan that has quite nice frost and mirrors. I am always a sucker for DMPL Morgans regardless of my wanderings into type coins from other series/denominations/countries.

I saw that MS66 Doily 79-S Morgan...the guy said he only had it for the rarity of a 66-graded Morgan doily slab because in his opinion the coin itself is no better than a 64. I'm sure you've examined it before, no?

Thanks for the report! Curious, how does this show compare (size-wise and attendance-wise) to the PNNA Tukwila show in early May? I've thought about doing the Boeing show but it's sandwiched in between the FUN show and the San Jose show here in California.

Actually, Charmy, I think BECC was a significantly larger than the show in Tukwila. Put together the two gyms at Kent Commons are 124' x 101' or 12.5K sqft. If I remember correctly, in Tukwila we were in the 3,000 sqft banquet hall.

The show was great... lots of traffic and most dealers seemed pretty happy. As is usual, a lot of Boeing medals.

in the strange slabs world, there were two doilies - one had an absolute dog of a Morgan so that all of the ask was in the holder (350 IIRC). I didn't ask about the other one.

Dennis (Lacey Rare Coins) had a ANACS photo certificate and a PCI (from the 2012 reincarnation, but with a 2012.95# not the usual 2012.02 and a bar code). I want it, but it has a nice Morgan in it and I can't justify north of 500 for a slab.

James Sego had three of Conder's "Paramount #1' label, (Black insert, "A SILVER DOLLAR from THE REDFIELD COLLECTION", per Conder this is Paramount #1 and was used for circulated coins).

Somebody had a Peace Dollar "GEC" in the "finny case" - it was marked MS66 and had been purchased online for 2K... worth about 30 (cleaned, EF/AU).

I scored a contemporary counterfeit 1861 3cs and a ANACS small white slab from the 21xxxx 'mystery range' (the #s in the middle of the ranges that they have for the 2 letter - 4 number lookups).

I was quoted $365 for that MS66 doily. The seller is someone I've bought from before without problem. I didn't have a problem with the coin graded MS66. My problem was the asking price as MS66 Morgans are weaker than usual at this time.

The show seemed slower than past shows. I didn't get there until midday so perhaps some of the morning crowd had thinned out by then. Parking wasn't easy given the size of the parking lot and today's weather.

Excess parking is just off the back of the lot and is covered as well....it's the detention center facilities' parking, but is quite large and is there for the overflow.
I park there quite often when I go there as I don't feel like circling and waiting for a spot.

And, yes, it did thin out quite a bit by the time you got there. I got there just after 11am and didn't leave until almost 3pm. Crowd was lighter by then.
Still not bad though.

Could have been quoted 365... I spent some time with him and looked at the coin in detail. If that was graded MS66, then it was dropped onto a concrete floor between being graded and being encapsulated - or did you not see the 3 moon-crater gouges in the field about eye height?

The seller had worked for one of the TPGs once upon a time, and admitted that things like that had happened... The comment he made was that it was a $30 coin and "all the value is in the slab".

Regardless I had a lot of fun...hope for the dealer's sake it's not too dead this afternoon (there is something going on up in Seattle, Girl's Field Hockey championships or something).

I can also stop lusting after Dennis' expensive PCI slab, I had a bubble mailer in the box last night:

Great reports..... always liked the Boeing show.... lots of good coins and also usually some Boeing memorabilia....also got some great deals on Commemorative's there..not sure why, but at the time, they were cheaper than elsewhere....Cheers, RickO

Nice report. Overall a pretty decent show...Saturday was crowded, today was dead, as would be expected.
