Are no date nickles the cheapest way to go? If so i may need a few thousand more!

Cool project! What are you mounting them on and how are you planning to keep them attached?

Looks like you will need lots more. You could throw in a few other types for face value.

They may be the cheapest as long as you checked them first for varieties rare dates etc. I found (2) 1918/7's in an inherited coffee can of buff nickels used as poker chips.

125 inches x 32 inches (27 sq feet!!) laying on oak veneered plywood then covered in clear resin that you pour on and heat the bubbles out. I laid out 1 SQ ft and there were 230 nickels in it so I need 230x27 minus what I already have. It's going to be a couple thousand easily. The first pic above is approximately 1 foot square

That will be really cool.
You should throw in some other denominations and mix them in as some sort of pattern.

Maybe throw one of these in the bathroom

I like it!

Doing it all in Buffs (I'd leave out the overly dark ones) will look great. Mixing in other denoms would cause odd gaps.

I don't remember if the place was called silver dollar saloon or bar. It was in N Mexico
in Old Mesilla .The bar was done in silver dollars. It had a long history of the likes
of Billy the kid and the outlaws.45 years ago I wonder if its still there.

I was on the path to do this years ago, and got sidetracked. My thought was to use all nickels, and to buy dateless and acid treated buffs, then mix in nickels with damage on one side. I wanted to include T1 buffs, and also shield and V nickels as well.

Never got it started!

Looks like it will be very cool when done. The Bar Glaze stuff they sell at lowes or hm depot is great for doing the bartops.

great project but the dark and ugly coins may be distracting. I would wash them in dilute mauratic acid it will make em look a lot better since there just going to be entombed and not collected.
