1942 Dime w/ doubled date

Not real sure what I have here but I suspect machine doubling. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

From the looks of that "1" in the date, I don't think I would call it machine doubling. The spread in the "1" is much wider than any machine doubling that I have seen. I could be wrong though. Have you thought about sending it in to Wexler to see if they can get you an attribution?

Machine Doubling / Mechanical Doubling / Shelf Doubling / Etc.... Same thing. That's what you have and it is pretty cool. I have owned a few examples. There is no attribution needed here.

Yup, I dug through a box of junk and I have the following Machine Doubled Mercs: 1941 in Mint State, 1943-D in MSFB and a 1945 in AU.
I haven't photographed them though. Maybe one day. Pretty cool and easy to "CherrypicK."

Not uncommon actually. If you ever get a chance to look through a roll of 1942 dimes, you will find a few per hundred.

Very cool coin. All the lettering is doubled also but I am not up on machine doubling enough to say. Congrats

This is a very good example of why it is at times hard to tell what is a true doubled die and machine doubling for those that do not deal with this all the time. Could you post a picture of the entire obverse for reference on this coin? There are splits or seperation and that may throw some off but the secondary devices are flat and do not show the rounding that a doubled die would show.

Tuition was cheap on this one RickO at $1.263 from one of my bulk buys. Most of my dues were paid long ago.

Regardless of the cause, a most interesting strong example. As it's on a Liberty (Merc.) dime my favorite series,only enhances it's appeal.

I've got a 1941 that could be a strong first cousin to that '42. I keep it since it's the best case for easily showing machine doubling I've run across.
