1923-s buffalo grade opinion ***update with my image***

is my example borderline gradable with toning/corrosion?
grade guesses looking at these 2
thanks in advance too

darn reverse really throws me for a loop

for grade guessing...on top here is a pcgs ms62...ebay #201259911161
image

my example...rough image to work with....but enough to guess on
image

in hand image...best i could do...looks like a 75% shot at grading as corrosion isn't that bad for grade/mostly it's an alloy mix issue...grade...vf35/xf40....i'll update after submission

The 2nd coin could be AU as long as there is plenty of luster. If minimal luster than just XF. The reverse of the MS62 sure doesn't look unc to me. But flat strikes can be tricky.

Is yours a 2 feather or 2 1/2 feather- hard to see with toning. Reverse I think is usually found pretty weak on the '23-S. I would say definately a XF or shot at AU+, but if thats the color on obverse not sure it would grade.

It's a strong XF but looks to have some considerable corrosion. That corrosion would knock it down to a Fine 15 level IMO.

I'll guess XF-40 or so. Yes it does have corrosion so the grade goes out the window.

I'd be shocked if that one str8 graded.

    XF 40 otherwise.

initially i had saw just a mere vf-ish but after that 62 listed it had me wondering on 1923-s dies n strikes

I don't understand the MS62 grade. There is far too much flatness on the hip to attribute merely to a so-so strike. Moreover, the excellent images reveal quite a few ticks. There are too many for that piece to be uncirculated. My initial guess was AU55.
This issue is one of the toughest to grade in the entire series.

Like most of the branch Mint dates from around 1919 thru 1935 many coins were struck from worn out, badly eroded reverse (and sometimes obverse) dies. This erosion can confuse the issue between erosion and corrosion and sometimes even disguise the corrosion (I know-too many osions there.) See the section of my book concerning this, Teddy.

And the MS62 looks to have a very slight amount of wear on the upper part of the left rear leg. I've seen many coins from the TPG that have a tiny bit of wear on the MS60, 61, and 62 grades.
