Not my series... I'll guess 53

I do not prefer this one as much as others that you have posted. This coin does not have that nice original look but the lustre is highlighted to the point of likely getting a bump to AU55.

Not the look I like, but may get an AU50-55 if there are not too many hairlines.
Would be nice if had been the large 8

AU50 but a coin I would probably not buy myself. It does not look original.

There is a lot going on in this coin... parts I like, parts not so much. Will be interesting to see the grade.. I am in the 55 camp, but would not be shocked to see a different grade.

    I grade it ... unfortunate.

Namely, it's unfortunate that the "8" is so small! image

Nice coin, if the luster is a good as it appears, then AU-58. If not, then AU-55.

Don't let anyone tell you that is not the right look for a bust half to own Brian. It might not be a dirty grey, but it still looks like a wholesome EF-45 / AU-50 example of an early overdate to me.

I like the coin just fine as a PCGS 53, 55 on a good day. For a young fellow, Brian is sure buying expensive coins lately.

I grade it in the 1100 to 1300 dollar range.

and may well be too low based on my auction results latelyimage

I'm with those that said 53/55. Difficult choice between the two, trying to distinguish between weak strike/worn die and wear.

I try to remain unbaised while the coin is still at grading, but I will say that this is a very late die state of 1812/1.

Did you cherry this off eBay? Agree re die state. Lot's o' meat and the images suggest the luster may carry her to a 55. I'd be a bit surprised if she doesn't at least garner a 53. Of course it would be so much easier to evaluate in hand. I could pm you my address...

Nice coin and if cherried, she may well be You Suck fodder!

    Here's the result;

    image

I'm content with the assigned grade. Personally I think the details are all there for 55 but the discoloration at the high points slightly exaggerates the wear, so I can understand why PCGS played it safe. I suspect the fact that it is a very late die state was also a factor in the conservative grade.

Congrats Brian! The luster from the pics make it look like it could have gotten a 55, perhaps on a good day. Either way, she's a great bustie to add to your collection!
