How about Lot 5504, the Garrett 1792 Birch Cent NGC MS65RB*? This incredible coin, pedigreed back to David Rittenhouse, the first Director of the United States Mint, sold for $200000 in 1981. A more historic offering I can't imagine. I could see this surpassing 3M$:

I would have guessed that it might approach $2,000,000 considering the history of the coin. But with all of the very significant high end inventory coming to market in the near future, I think that $1.2 million is more probable.
But for whoever pays a million plus, for this beautiful work of art, I hope they crack it out and handle it very gently in their hands for a U-Tube video, before sending it back to PCGS RAW........

What goodies are coming to market soon?? I might have a winning lottery ticket laying around somewhere...
A beautiful Chain Cent for sure. I think it's got a few bids left in it, but I don't see it being a $2M coin. I'll say $1.586M. Just a complete guess, of course.
This must be a different variety OBV than the other Chain Cents that I have seen in the past in which LIBERTY looks horendious. This one is quite appealing! Must be the "period" variety...still waaaaay outta my price range.

I love the hair strand detail, and the obverse cracks are great.

I wonder where it resided until the 1879 sale.
Coins like this are national treasures, imo.

After watching it sell, I spent 20 minutes with the shop-vac cleaning up the drool.
If I had the money, it would sell for at least $1.5 million.
I can look at it anytime I want and it didn't cost me a cent.
