Submission Question For An Unattributed DDO
Good Afternoon,
I recently purchased a 1909 VDB in a PCGS MS65RD holder which houses an unattributed FS-1101. The coin resides in an older PCGS holder, and I would like to have this coin properly attributed to upgrade my current registry. I am assuming that I must choose regrade as my submission type, but I don't necessarily want/need to coin itself to be regraded. Is there a service that would allow me to submit in holder for proper attribution? Thanks

That is my understanding anyway. For an authoritative source just call them 800-447-8848
Cool DDO, BTW

I hope that makes sense, lol.
Thanks again.
retain it's current grade.
edited to add..... The grade guarantee would only apply to the originally holdered coin. Should also mention, that if for any reason, they decided that the coin has turned and is no longer a
valid candidate for the 65rd, they will holder it as they see fit and pay you the difference.
I see how you could be concerned about the above coin being kicked out of a 65rd holder, as it appears to have turned in the holder. Not sure what the right answer is for you in this situation.
<< <i>Do not send it in for a regrade. You want to send slab in for a variety attribution. Your cost should be reholder fee, variety attribution fee, handling fee, and return shipping. The coin will
retain it's current grade. >>
Last question if I just want the holder to display Doubled Die Obverse with the coin number 82425 is that possible, or do I need to also pay the attribution fee even though this is a major variety?
Thanks!

You should be able to get it reholder with the "Doubled Die Obverse" label for just the reholder fee and not the variety attribution fee as it's one of their major varieties in the Red Book where the separate variety charge doesn't apply. Just be sure to write on the for to reholder w/ the 82425 number instead of 2425.
As mentioned, there is a very small possibility that the coin could downgrade if they no longer feel it meets the 65RD grade... even on a reholder this can happen. If it went to 64RD, you would be compensated for the difference in value as there would be a drop in the grade, but it's not clear to me if it went to 65RB that you would be compensated as PCGS no longer guarantees the color designation (except for some folks who bought long ago and are grandfathered in). I don't think you'll have to worry about it from the photos, but you should confirm this with PCGS if it is something that worries you.

I agree...No on the regrade.
According to PCGS CoinFacts, that is a $3250 Variety coin! Woo-Hoo!
PCGS # 82425 KO!

After speaking to a wonderful customer service representative, apparently you must selected variety attribution even on major varieties in order for it to go through the grading room and be properly attributed. It won't be be regraded, but the variety will be verified. I don't believe they will charge me the $24 either since I want the coin to be categorized under 82425. Good to know for the future. I was able to stop it before it shipped, and it should be going through the grading room soon. Anyways enjoy the trueview below, I think she's a beauty.
<< <i>Fun Fact: So I chose to submit this coin through reholder putting the PCGS Coin #82425 on the submission form. I did not select variety attribution as this was a major variety, and normally wouldn't have to pay the $24 fee. The coin was reholdered, but under the original PGCS Coin #2425.

Whats the Trueview from?
This recent submission?
Be sure to share the outcome since "IF" you pay for Variety Attribution ($24) you're going to get a slab label that says "DDO FS-1101 (FS-012)" (Coin # 37633) and I think what you are looking for is simply a label which says "Doubled Die Obverse" (Coin #82425).
I think you should have submitted it just for a regrade under the proper coin number.
The problem with Customer Service and Variety Attribution is that some of them appear to be ignorant regarding older coin numbers and once the term Variety Atrtribution is mentioned, they default to you selecting Variety Attribution on the submission form and paying the $24 which is NOT what you want.
I can submit a 1964 Kennedy Half Accented Hair Proof under its old coin number and not have to worry about selecting Variety Attribution or paying any fee's or explaining anything to customer service.
I hope I'm wrong about your submission because I also know that once a submission is in the works, any changes to that submission which would require a fee will get your coin held up until PCGS gets that payment.
Be sure to share the outcome of this situation as there could be many lessons learned.

I hope it all goes as planned.

<< <i>I just wanted to thank everyone again for helping with this submission. The coin was corrected today under the proper code 82425, the coin has retained the same certification number, and I was not charged the variety attribution fee. A lot of lessons learned with this submission, and everything worked out in the end. >>
Thanks for the update.
