"it's nothing like DHeath's set that was a MOOSE"...no better set will ever be found above his...YOU SUCK SET
yes 1965 sms sets can be exciting to me
tracking shows it's enroute...seller confirmed coins imaged are coins sent
of all the years looking i've never seen a better looking cent in a set as this...still in envelope so shadows and lights play their toll..."but that lincoln can't hide"
i'm liking this one..."ALOT"
will update when in hand...then if worthy...when it grades too
seller image's...all i did was hit auto focus on...regardless of any outcome...this is one very high-end 1965 sms lincoln in the raw for viewing pleasure

That nickel looks pretty good as well.

DHeath's set is a MOOSE. Maybe he will reply to this thread and post a photograph of it.
As for your new set, the cent is promising. It appears to have fields that are possibly nicely mirrored and frost on the devices. On the reverse it appears that the spaces between the pillars are not frosted at all, so that is a negative. The mint cello can mask the true look of the coin and of course so can the photo. The frost and mirrors may actually be better than or worse than what is shown in the photo. Can't wait to see your photo of the cent out of the cello.
The nickel, dime and half dollar look run of the mill.
The quarter is interesting. The finishes on SMS coins covers a broad array of lloks. I can not tell if the quarter's appearance is due to haze that has developed on the coin, or whether the appearance is due to the way the coin was struck. My guess is that the quarter has haze on it, but if I am wrong an up close photo of the quarter would be nice to see. The quarter just looks out of place compared to most of the other SMS quarters I have seen.
I like Teddy, and he actually sent me photos of just the cent yesterday. Although I hope I'm wrong for Teddy's sake, I'd have passed based upon the pictures alone.
With these coins it is all about the mirrors -for PCGS to designate them as cameo, they have to have decent mirrors and some frost. Finding decent mirrors is harder than finding frost.
In the meantime I see that PCGS has decided to use my coin as their example in Coin Facts:

<< <i>I'm surprised at the optimism being expressed by knowledgeable board members. I'm far less optimistic than those who have posted previously. The photo looks to be quite juiced to highlight the contrast to me, I say this due to the look of the half and the medallion. Accordingly, I'd expect the cent to be rather unremarkable when it arrives.

I also agree. The half dollar looks too bright.
My reply does have the usual qualifiers, but after reading Modcrewman's reply I took a second look at the photo of the SMS set. It does look like the photo is juiced. If so, then the frost on the cent in hand will look weaker than what is shown in the photo. The mirrored fields do look promising and as Cameonut has pointed out mirrored fields on SMS coinage is more difficult to find than frosted devices.
So, assuming you have received delivery of the set, what does the cent look like in hand, out of the cello?
<< <i>What is that hit left of Lincoln's head? I hope that's on the plastic and not the coin. >>
Good question! It could be a struck thru fiber. Struck thru fibers are often seen on cameos as the pressmen changed to new dies. Rags were used to clean the dies and often small fibers are left behind to be struck into the first few coin or two. PCGS usually knocks the grade down a point or so, but it is a good indication of fresh dies. You can see one to the right of Lincoln's head on my coin.

to the best of my ability...i'll shoot it when it arrives friday but if it passes my scouring over it...off for a piggyback that's going out soon
i'll look at time stamp...but 1st one who pm's me with interest in set leftovers...everything but the cent...gets um...it's a freebie
these sms lincolns are what i consider "RARE COIN"...if you get one blessed by our host as a cameo
to date...only 73 cam...3 dcam have such blessing
these pops are safe as no one cracks out if designated...perhaps some have crossover skewing but for the most part...pop is respected
most fail for....flow lines in field...our host is real sticklers for mirrored fields...frost can be mild so long as there
the frost between pillars is a mute point...i had 3 sms examples in cameo in which 2 didn't have between the pillars
minor strike through dust and fibers are common...also common is carbon spots...sadly many have them...or that copper tarnish i call it
it's a thrill or chase to me...more so a goal...to have one blessed by our host as cameo that i found in the wild raw
coindudeonebay......."I hope it turns into a $500 coin for you!"...hehehe...gotta love ya brother...still do
cameonut..................." I see that PCGS has decided to use my coin as their example in Coin Facts"....that's class to say the least
modcrewman............"The photo looks to be quite juiced to highlight the contrast"...yeah i hit auto-focus was all...i'll post up non auto-focus...raw seller image
kaline6....................."Very educational thread folks, thank you! Now I've got to go take a look in the SDB"...they are $$$ coins...there's a bounty for them...they are hunt worthy
sanction II..............i'll image the quarter too...probably just haze
coinWW2.................."What is that hit left of Lincoln's head? I hope that's on the plastic and not the coin"...fingers crossed it's the plastic...one minor doesn't hurt much
seller image no auto-focus...any who have looked though know...this is one you don't just glance over...$15 for this set...probably one of the safer bets in vegas
just had to wait for confirmation...coin imaged was to be sent....many sms offerings use stock or old photo's...that's a trap
some images....sellers use a lamp shade and focus on single coins
Wishing you the best on it when it comes

one of these days guys...i will hit me a homerun yet...like all you seem to do left n right...it's just not today again
where's my crow pie for being excited...
ok so in hand...NO SOUP FOR THIS 65 LINCOLN
he had some minor spots...but fields...just not liquid enough...enough mint bloom to tell he won't make the cut
a lil comparison by a 66 i have in same darn position in life...but a one up on his new brother..."KLOSE KOWBOYS" is all
1st my 66...a sellers image here....close to the edge but he's not gunna fall over it
ok my best at shooting these (don't laff or get coffee on your keyboards)
Sorry about the cent. It still looks good.
no ones claimed these freebies yet...free shipping too...UPDATE...SURPLUS DENOM'S FINALLY CLAIMED
i just wanted...still do...this lincoln...as it is..rare for a lincoln to even come close to cameo in 1965
hehehe...65 quarters...i'm still excited mine...even though i coughed up the $205 for it...in 66cam...

Well said! I also think his attitude is worth more than a 400.00 coin. Like your style lasvegasteddy.
Hint: When figuring out shows where you might find a hidden score, see if there are the small shows where collectors set up. We have 2 up here that fit that bill...one is in November and the other is the Boeing show in January. I haven't had a homerun, but I did have a couple of doubles.....found some nice older ANACS holdered morgans from an older collector getting out of coins. He asked a fair price and I paid it. Coins were his from when first submitted 20+ years ago I believe he said.
No...nothing like MS67 or anything, but just some really nice MS63/64 for fair prices in cool holders.

Try to not get too excited over a photograph regardless of what its showing because photographs can be "tweeked" whereas the coins that are being imaged, cannot without repercussions.
This includes ALL photographs of coins (and even some super models)!
The name is LEE!
