Another eBay buyer to block... a SNAD and Feedback abuser. Quite the combo!

airplanenutairplanenut Posts: 22,731 ✭✭✭✭✭
I hate to have to put up these posts, but there are a lot of sellers here, and I'm hoping this guy doesn't do to you what he just pulled off on me. The good news is that you'll be able to read through all of his messages quickly, since he's been 100% silent.

User ID: tinkle_monkey (an email search showed he has at least two other accounts, and while I don't think they're in use, if you want to protect yourself... the_best_relic_hunter_in_md and 7_seas_treasure_coins)

Why I'm mad: This guy bought two gold coins from me (Spanish colonials). Upon receipt, he opened a SNAD case for one of them, with the reason being "The item doesn't match the description." Gee, that's really helpful. Anyway, because the case was opened, I had no choice but to take the return (which is fine) and foot the return shipping (which is not fine unless I screwed up). Eventually, he left me this negative feedback: "A polished, shiny coin with no value. Seller trying not to honor return policy." There are two problems. First, this was left FOUR DAYS BEFORE the item was returned to me. Of course I hadn't given him a refund yet. He got one the day it arrived. Second, I double checked, and the coin was in no way cleaned. I emailed him to explain about when I got the item back, but he responded to none of my emails. I thought this was done. Nope.

Over the weekend (now over a month after the purchase), he leaves another negative with the other coin he bought: "SELLER OFFERS A REFUND POLICY, BUT WILL BLOCK YOU IF YOU REQUEST IT! X-JEWELRY" Basically, he never had a problem with the coin (clearly if he did, he knows how to file SNADs), but as soon as he found out I blocked him, he used that feedback still sitting in his pocket to hit me again. eBay removed the comment because it wasn't related to the item, but won't remove the negative. On the first one, they said that because half of the feedback was an opinion, they wouldn't remove it, even though the other half was a lie (which they knew, since they had the tracking and refund information).

Anyway, if you'd like to save yourself from a world of hurt, I'd suggest blocking this guy. Unless, of course, he can leave feedback for a recent transaction. Then, hope for the best.

If you're wondering whether my emails to him were inflammatory, here they are (as mentioned, no replies whatsoever):

#1 (Sent 9/28):

Hi,

I have been on vacation the last few days, but just noticed that you left negative feedback for this coin. I must say that I am quite surprised. I am sorry if you feel there was a problem with the coin, but no contact was ever made with me to let me know of such an issue (I certainly don't recall the coin being polished, and had I thought so, I would have described it as such). In addition, I haven't yet received the coin back, which is why no refund has been processed. When I go to the return page for this item on eBay's website, eBay has in huge letters this message for me:

The returned item is on its way to you
You should wait until you get the item back before you refund the buyer.

I apologize if there may have been a delay in it being sent back, but in following eBay's own instructions, I must wait for the coin to be returned until I can process a refund, and I will do so. At that time, I trust you will be willing to revise your feedback.

Thank you,

Jeremy Katz

#2 (Sent 9/29):

Hi,

I wanted to let you know that I received the coin back today and have issued a refund. I would like to point out that there was no malicious intent to delay the refund; the package was delivered today, and a refund was granted as soon as possible upon my receipt of it. Here is what the USPS tracking shows:

Tracking Number: 9302020130200467541115

DATE & TIME
STATUS OF ITEM
LOCATION
September 29, 2014 , 8:57 am
Delivered
RENTON, WA 98057
Your item was delivered at 8:57 am on September 29, 2014 in RENTON, WA 98057.

In light of this, I would appreciate if you would consider revising your feedback, as a full refund was granted as soon as possible. At the very least, I would appreciate at least your reply letting me know you received this message. I try very hard to treat my customers well, and I'm sorry that I may have fallen short here. Had I been informed of any issues, I would have worked as quickly as possible to resolve them.

Thank you,

Jeremy Katz/JKCoins

if it is racist to be biased against someone with another skin color/nationality and sexist to be biased against someone from another gender, what is it when you really, really loathe/despise stupid

people because i think i may be one of those! i consider someone stupid that acts FAR below their intelligence level as a habit not for occasionally goofing around. (and i'm not referring to APN here

i would say elitist but it really doesn't quite fit the bill. ) in fact he showed far more patience with that hooplehead than i would have. i usually just ignore them as it

seems the majority of the time they aren't looking for enlightenment but instead to show their pathetic reasoning and communication skills. both are usually impressively and equally shamefully poor.

I have purchased several coins from you in the past and everything was great, so I know it's not you! (One was a Morgan for $80 bucks that after regrade, I sold for 12 grand.)

Best to you Jeremy. It's a ridiculously tough business, at times. And it's not exactly the best of times.

Some people go through life with a sour face and disagreeable nature. Your buyer sounds like one of them. Nothing can be done to fix them. You do what you have to and move on.

You handled everything right except for one thing, and you know what that mistake was. You blocked him while he could still leave feedback.

On the flip side, had he won more items, I could have been even more exposed and for a longer period of time.

Perhaps. Low odds. Regardless, I'll bet eBay would side with you if he bought more coins just to leave more negs, don't you think?

I see you responded to his negative. Be aware if he is savvy enough he could then add another statement (to your response) thus making that particular feedback stand out for it's width when others scroll that page…).

Jeremy, the problem is not the miscreant buyer, but Ebay, which will always leave us hung out to dry.

Rants are fine but the problems with these dolts will never end.

I'm certain that there is a special place in hell for this a-hole. The real shame of what happened here is that at least 13 other potential buyers couldn't put this jerk-off in his place. image

His second feedback had nothing to do with the item it was left for, and the best eBay would do is take away the comment, because he might have still had a negative opinion of the transaction, even though his comment was directed to a different item. Other than feedback related to customs issues or feedback extortion, I can only remember one time negatives got removed, and that was after proving a buyer who bought 11 items from me and left negs for them all was someone I had previously blocked, even though his name and address were different between accounts. I wouldn't trust eBay on this one...
