P001 grades?

Whats the attraction for these low ballers?
I know from some of the posts here there seems
to be some kind of a following for these.
I have a 1883 lib. nickel that I think would have a shot at 1.
Altho it would be a pop 1 according to our hosts pop report it hardly seems worth the effort.

If there is a lowball registry set that it fits in then there may be people that will pay decent money for it.

There are a few people that seem to have fun by "making" P01 grades on moderns by accelerated wear. I really don't understand how
that fits into coin collecting.

The real mystery to me is PO01 collectors that like them to also have CAC stickers....thereby attesting that the coin is a strong PO01....if you really subscribe to the allure of worst-graded, then you should want your PO01 coins to get denied by CAC !!

No doubt ... the worst possible outcome is a gold CAC sticker! I thought it was a PO-01, but dang ... it's a lock AG-3!

If you get a gold CAC sticker on your PO01 you have to remove that!

The only PO01 I would be interested in would be a nice worn no corrosion chain cent.

I collect lowballs, but nearly exclusively raw.

There's a classic gold lowball set ATS IIRC. The collection is quite beautiful IMO.

Just think of the stories the coins could tell.

If I cannot afford anything better than VG, and most of the time VF is the low grade for me, you can imagine what I think of a Poor-01.

BillJones speaks wisely here.

I bought one g4 graded coin. A 1901-s quarter. Although, I'd be hard pressed to afford much more than that, every time I look at it it reminds me why I won't buy less than a F+ again, and usually much higher.

What's the attraction for these lowballers?

The P01 slab collector can keep them in the home 24/7 with little risk of someone stealing them.The collector's 8-track audio tape collection would be more of a target for a burglar or robber.Advice is to always,repeat,always have a few 8-tracks hanging out in plain view in the vicinity of the P01 slab cluster(s).

Everyone thinks a PO01 is sooooo easy to find, they are not!! A while back I started and held the #1 lowball Morgan spot for a bit. Finding a PO01 is like finding a MS70. They are out there but they take a lot of time to find!! What got me hook, the thrill of the hunt!! Most common lowballs can be bought for melt (when I did my set that was about $10 each), the keys are a lot less also. I really enjoyed looking through the melt buckets for my lowballs.

I personally do not collect low grades, but undestand the allure to them. It is much tougher to find a PROBLEM FREE coin in poor condition than it is to find many of the uncirculated grades.

P001 grades?
