Dimeman's Silver Dollar Show Report....

DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well, I didn't get to go until Saturday this year due to scheduling problems. A lot of the big dealers were gone already and by 2:00 it looked like a ghost town. image

I walked the whole floor, what was left of it, before I went to eat at 1:00. Didn't find any U.S. Dimes for my set, but managed to get 2 Canadian Dimes I needed. Got them from Mr. Shaffer a dealer in Canadian coins. I got the 1947 PCGS63 and the 1932 AU ICCS.

That's about it. Short and sweet. I enjoy all shows....just some better than others. Saturday is NOT the best day for a show.

I think they had a complete set of Canadian dimes in their auction.

Our annual Houston SW Money Show which attracts some national coin dealers as exhibitors, coupled with a Heritage Auction, is open for retail bourse business from Thursday through Saturday (closed Sunday), and many out of town dealers start leaving around lunchtime Saturday.

You can sometimes get some good deals, if you're there when the crowd is slim and business is slow on Saturday. The associated Heritage Auction always attracts dealers and retail customers for coin lot viewing.

I was only there on Thursday...it was very quiet, no buzz at all.

However I still managed to spend plenty of money, although very little was for my own collections.

Spent a fair amount of time chatting with Larry Briggs, among others, and the last hour looking at auction lots.

Usually it is a bit more packed on Thursday, and decent on Friday, but Saturday is always a bit subdued...

3.5 hr drive to the show and 3.5 hr drive back home on the same day...makes for a full day!
