Did these 4 really sell for $5590?

Ebay link

This lot contains four - 2008 W $50 American Gold Buffalo coins.
The coins pictured here are actual ones for sale.

apparently so.

sellers sold listings

but as the saying goes..."if it's to good to be true" etc. In addition, this seller does not have a history of selling coins. Caveat emptor

<< <i>Looked up prices on those first strikes and wow, somebody got a rip and a half!

Notably, this one went cheap too compared to the others. >>

The PCGS price guide is $21,800 for those 4 coins, so it looks like the seller took it in the shorts.

seller has never sold coins and has not sold anything in the last year.

i'd have never bid on this.

Sounds like a deal ready to go bad

Doesn't Paypal let you "receive" the merchandise now before you have to make payment?

"You can now use your bank to Pay After Delivery when you shop. This lets you get your items before you pay at no extra cost. How does Pay After Delivery work?

1. Order your item, select Pay After Delivery during checkout, and we’ll pay the seller on your behalf.
2. We’ll send you a reminder first and then deduct the money from your bank, 14 days after purchase.
3. Eligible purchases are covered under PayPal Purchase Protection."

Clear and obvious hijacked account. No doubt about it. These same Buffs were "sold" a couple months ago in another hijacking case.

Considering that one is worth what the lot went for I'll have to agree it's a scam. Have that hole to fill someday.

What would happen if someone were to point this out to eBay?

I used to report them directly to Judith, but I don't know which option to use with the new rules. Regardless, Ebay should retroactively cancel the transaction before. It might take a phone call now.

This is the typical MO for some of these hijackers. The $5k area is the sweet spot - gold eagle anniversary sets, Buffalo gold sets, 4 coin annual gold eagle sets and other modern mint precious metal seem to be the favorite along with key date coins. It is usually always a dormant account (no recent selling activity) and never any coin selling history. They are pretty easy to spot when you know what to look for.

Well it looks like eBay's policy of making it hard to talk to them just cost them about $5,000. Chump change to them I guess.

It is possible for an individual to report a fraudulent listing multiple times. Perhaps if each responder to this thread reported fraudulent listings like this on the order of a half dozen times or more, eBay would take notice.

Looks like the same characters are back. Same scam a few months back -once in May I believe - same items, same low end buy it now price.
