My initial thought was "yuck", until I noticed the off-center strike. That made me go from thinking it's ugly to thinking it's cool-ugly.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

had the same effect on me too...probably the ugliest coin i grew to like

saw the obverse 1st and was intrigued...then i saw the reverse...but it kinda grew on me

  • That is an interesting error LVT what is causing the mess on the reverse?

could be the reverse die heated up under stress and melted that eagle or deposited surface build up residual onto the surface

strange sms...had to happen early...perhaps a 1st and last strike coin here for these dies

they was experimenting trying to get one strike proofs down on new clad issue planchets
    this was a woops

but the dies look like they were new and could of produced a dcam

most of the best Cam/DCam candidates from 1965 came from a die which was over-polished and showed the effect of that to the right of the obverse portrait near the rim, a circular shaped patchthat runs from approximately 3-o'clock to 5-o'clock. due to the off-center strike it's hard to tell if this coin came from those dies but I suppose it is possible that strikes such as this led to the polishing. I think it is the only off-center SMS strike of any denomination that I have ever seen.

Teddy, it is a keeper. please post the results off its journey West.

That is one fugly quarter. I can't look at it for more than a few seconds at a time.

On the other hand, I agree that it kinda grows on you.

Is that the worlds largest milk spot/splash on the rev?

thanks for the replies and bearing with a little title deviation....image

ol lord marco...gotta love ya as i've always respected your accepting nature...same exact thing crossed my mind too...cool-ugly

so yeah keets...on note of those partial halo's found in the fields in front and back of his portrait on other cameos...this coin has about the same local
strange double rim above "E-R-T" for a broadstruck in supposed of single struck coin series...as i've been told....like 2 frosted rims there
i'll update when back from pcgs...lol...i'll even curse the truview imager with it's presence...as it is kinda special

the reverse also bears "same area" frost issues which kept many a cameo from being assigned...for the most part that eagle has frost issues
    like this one....image

coindude and ricko..."on ebay of course"...popped up on "buy it now" for $23.14 which included $2.00 shipping

sparky...lol...largest milk spot...or curdled milk gone wrong and the die puked it's patina up on this planchect
very-very strong frost sits on eagle's bottom feathers area

to not be a total butthead here...here's a make-up pretty 1965 quarter for the eyes...enjoy if ya do
