Will I need to go to every other week?

Just out of curiosity has anyone taken the time to go through the coins that are still listed and rate which ones would be the best value? Also has anyone been observing whether some of the offered coins appear to be returns that in fact represent "new material" having been taken off the website in its first days?

How would rust spots affect the value of these Coins? I'm itching to buy a coin somewhere. Spotted a nice one but it has
a rust spot on the obverse. Would this be a major value killer?

Would depend on the size and location. Some actually like the character that goes with "carbon spots" on gold coins. Some issues like the Carson City minted gold coins are more prone to "carbon spots" due to the mixture of other metals that allow for "carbon spotting."

There is an argument to be made that a gold coin from the Saddle Ridge Hoard that demonstrates "carbon spots" has not been subjected to the same degree of "conservation" and may be more like it was originally found.

They are copper spots. If the spots are minor and do not detract from the coin's eye appeal, they are actually considered a desirable indicator of original skin, much preferable to a dipped out shiny coin. Several of Saintguru's superb Saints had copper spots with their original skin.

    Good question.
These last ones have been sitting there like the last fruits at the market after all the un-damaged ones were picked out.
It's probably a mix of reasons but I was wondering if they're really that sub par from the rest or partly because people assume that the best were all sold. Or is it certain dates/grades that were less in demand and nobody wants to give a hoard premium for them?
It sure seemed like there was a clear delineation when it got near 200 left.

I suspect the recent drop in precious metal prices has had at least an indirect effect on more recent sales of these and any other gold coins.

<< No excitement for these left?>> When these were released almost 4 months ago I like a lot of people was on the bandwagon engulfed in all the hype and ready to purchase one. Then after seeing the premiums for what they are I decided it would be better to continue my quest for truly collectible Charlotte and Dahlonega gold coins. I am glad that I was able to snag one of the $20 Liberties from the Champagne Lanson Collection, though the desirability was nothing compared to the SRH but IMO the premium on these coins was much more reasonable.

I'm way over this hoard. Waiting for the SS Central America Coins to hit the market.

I'm planning to go all in on a sweet 1855 something.

Government doesn't seem to care that the Saddle Ridge coins were stolen from the San Francisco Mint.

Per the other threads, I believe they (including the US Gov't) concluded there is no evidence that the coins were stolen from the mint.

Y'know, Mr1874, there are coins that exist out there in the world that haven't been stolen from any mint.

First the 1933 $20's and now these.

BTW - do you have the paperwork trail that proves the change in your pocket wasn't stolen from the US mint? If not, then we all have to assume it was.

these coins show have been long sold by now.
Every coin has a value and if it didnt sell in the first 3 months then the prices should have dropped per month until all sold.

Still having about 8% left seems like something that shouldnt be at this point.

For sure the cosigners have not been benefiting to at least $200,000 just sitting there
may the fonz be with you...always...

Y'know, Mr1874, there are coins that exist out there in the world that haven't been stolen from any mint.

Where have I said that I think "there are not coins that exist out there in the world that haven't been stolen from any mint?" For the record,I would never say such a ridiculous thing.

I think the Saddle Ridge coins were stolen. The proximity of Saddle Ridge to San Francisco, the quantity and condition of the various dates of the coins found in the tin cans, and other things that I'm not at liberty to discuss here at this time, indicate "stolen,a theft took place" to this investigator.

Do you think the Saddle Ridge hoard was a coin collection whose wealthy eccentric collector decided to bury outside in the ground? What is your idea about how those coins we know as the Saddle Ridge hoard came to be?

How did that accumulation of gold coins found in tin cans buried not very deep in the ground on Saddle Ridge come to be? Which mint did the Saddle Ridge coins come from if not the San Francisco mint?

The argument against theft from the mint vault is the fairly wide distribution of dates in quantity.
If it was a single theft, the hoard should have been 90% or more of a single date.

Not only the above post is correct (and there are other factors too),
but the Gov't actually issued a statement when all the rumors started
that the SR Hoard might have been stolen from the Mint.

The Treasury Dept. (or was it the Mint itself) said the coins were
    NOT stolen.

Considering the efforts they've made to take/keep the '33's,
I'd say such a statement means they have absolutely not
evidence of a theft - and they would have know about it, basis
the very large amount of gold in the Hoard..

Like all hoards…. there's plenty to feed collector demand.
