Hello fellow 1 percenters!

It still amazes me how much $$ moves on these boards. I am absolutely stunned how quickly the 1975 Mini case sold out.
I can imagine how outsiders might think we are crazy spending big bucks on little pieces of cardboard with pictures on them.
I have to admit, being part of this board has encouraged me to spend more unopened boxes.

Oh I see you can't joke around on the boards. My bad.

You don't have to make more then $380,354 per year to afford a $3,000 box of cards. Many who are buying them are doing so for investment and no one would even blink an eye if they threw that in a little investment account.
Good luck with your box and packs whatever you choose to do with them.
wait, are we talking top 1% or bottom 1%....
I hope to sell my cards one day and become a member of the top 1%.....buuuuuut I like

And the OP wasn't even part of the case break? Correct me if I'm wrong. Time to move on from this thread...

I wasn't referencing the 1975 thing going on. I haven't even clicked on that thread. I was referencing somebody bragging that they're part of the 1%. And while this next statement doesn't describe me either, I think it's important to realize that there are collectors for whom $3K is more than 10% of their annual pre-tax income. And those collectors are no less passionate for the hobby.
I was told there would be no math!!!

How are you not referencing the 1975 "thing" going on??? What if he had stated he was amazed about a 1986 Topps Baseball case break and that he's part of the 1% club? Would you have reacted the same? A little sense of humor can go a long way...

Very well said Wrestling Card King.
I've been here since 2001. I don't post the most but I do contribute when I can and this board has been a major plus for my hobby participation. It brought me back in and I'm glad it did.
Yup I wasn't part of the 1975 Mini Box Break, but I do admire how quickly $48K came together on this board. I was part of the 1979 Wax Tray Break and that was equally impressive.
EDIT: Grammar
<< <i>Hey Everyone - I usually don't make these types of posts but after I had to comment after seeing how much $$ have moved on this board and the BST lately in unopened boxes. As many have mentioned, the title was a meant to be sarcasm. Despite what economic situation you are in, spending money in this hobby is a luxury.

Yes, I would have. I understood it was a joke, I just thought the joke was in poor taste. With that being said, I'm willing to admit I was wrong to go after the OP. It doesn't seem that he meant anything by it. With the written word (texts, email) it's much easier to misinterpret tone than it is in verbal interactions. I think we've all done that and in this case I overreacted. I'm hoping we can all move on and continue the great discussions of this hobby we all love so much, and share in each other's triumphs.

That is a nice thing to come out and say Dan... I really believe it was innocent and you are correct regarding the difference between verbal and written communication...
<< <i>Even if meant as a joke, post came off as judgmental in a few ways. A lot of people participate in the hobby without spending that much and 2) whether you "collect cardboard with pictures", stamps, coins, works of art, first edition books - it's all stuff. A book is paper with words on it. Why describe cards in a derogatory way? Funny? I didn't really laugh. >>
OK this one I need to respond to. Judgmental in what way? Did I say anything against anyone's collecting habits? Didn't I say that I collected cardboard with pictures?
This reminds me when this board used to be dominated by discussions regarding high vs low end for whatever PSA grade a card had. If anyone outside of the forum saw what we were discussing, they would think we were a bunch of OCD freaks. If we can't laugh at ourselves, then this hobby is less fun.
Outside of drug dealer, Bitcoin, and maybe stolen credit cards forums, I don't see too many message boards where close to $100K in transactions occur in a short period of time. I think that needs to be put into perspective.

I am guessing you must have skipped his post where he said he didn't participate in the case break. The OP was starting a thread with a funny title. I highly doubt anyone saw the title and said I am going to skip over this one so it worked.
The entire debate between the so called 1% is one of the most misguided debates ever. Personally I think it is stupid to hate on those that have more then you but if someone wants to go that route it is not the person that makes $380k that you should concerned with. It is the top 0.001% in the income distribution that have truly seen their income grow.
The speed in which that case sold out was simply amazing and the case break from the National was just as impressive.
I am not getting why referencing the 1% is derogatory. Last I checked success was a good thing. Trying to villainize those with success is one of the reasons we can't get our economy growing faster. We need people to make money and in turn they will spend their money and pay taxes to keep the machine running.
That said I thought the title was funny especially in light of how much money this board has collectively dropped at the National and group breaks/rips in the last 2 weeks on unopened.
