Buy that coin and then you can post in the "Post your coins with interesting back stories" thread.

I saw that Sunday night, and I laughed so hard I hurt myself. Fake Chinese crapola.

I reported them last night also. For some reason, I felt like giving the guy the benefit of the doubt regarding their authenticity and sent him a note informing him that they were all fakes (I almost NEVER do this). If anyone had any doubts about where these fakes originated from, he was quite clear in his reply:

<< <i>I have no idea whether these were actual coins or just lucky pieces, as stated. I've been told that even as lucky pieces that were purchased during World War II in China, many people collect them. I'm told that you used to be able to go to many stores in China and find these, whether actual coins or not and when we were there two years ago, we looked everywhere and they are no longer sold. If counterfeited, I would think they would still be readily available, at least over there. Secondly, these are strictly of interest to me because of their paranormal association, which is also stated in the opening paragraph if every single listing I have. I normally only sell in the metaphysical category since that is my expertise. I did see coin holders and snuff holders that looked like trade dollars so I thought that anything in that category might be of interest to someone out there. I appreciate your input and I would imagine that any collector will be as much of an expert as you are and see these for whatever they are. I listed them for $25.00 each BECAUSE I didn't know what they are. I can only describe what I see, which I've done, and show the photos. I did take these to three coin shops here to try and get a better assessment and each owner told me they had never actually seen a Trade Dollar so they couldn't tell me a value for these. Have a great night. - haunts4u >>

Three coin shops and none of them have ever seen a Trade Dollar? Yeah, right. This guy knows what he has.

    And DARN!!!

It's a private sale too, and that means that I will have to log-in to find out my status. image

    DRAT!!! image

It's nice to see they have piano in the house. Perhaps they will play a funeral dirge for you while you are getting buried in this "Canton China" mint "Trade Dollar."

Perhaps Uncle Charlie wasn't a fighter pilot at all but a time traveler. He went up in time, bought this "old - new" "Trade Dollar" from the Canton China mint and then went back to World War II. image

    LOL!

You'd have to be blind and deaf to "look everywhere" and not be able to find a counterfeit U.S. trade dollar being sold in China!

    The Seller's response to me:

FYI...Not a "dude" on this end! A female attorney actually, with a more
expansive vocabulary than what I see in your message. The great thing about
EBay is that there are thousands of other items you can look at. With that
being said, I'm sure you'll find something worthwhile that might interest
you elsewhere DUDE! I have no idea whether these are actual coins or just

Really? i don't know how a person would know that with only one message and then try to insult someone with her "presumed-by-her-alone" word advantage and superior knowledge. Proll'y a 24 year old para-legal in training, pretending to be someone she ain't. i am not impressed.

    image Wha' dat mean???????????

It is still there because it has not been reported enough times yet. The seller is apparently one of those "talk mumbo-jumbo and confuse them" types. In this case CC means "Chinese Counterfeit". If this person is a real lawyer as she says, she should know it is illegal to sell fakes as genuine, no matter what the wording. Please report if you have not already.

Sort of like my grandfather, whom I never met, who in his youth sold an elixir he made up in a bathtub from the back of a wagon. He and his partner said that the stuff provided "metaphysical cures" for what ailed you, probably like a stiff dose of Ex Lax.

I guess she is in the business of selling Trade Dollars that are "metaphysically genuine."

It's kind of funny that this dudette researched how many Trade Dollars were minted, why they were minted, and what region they were exchanged in. But never cared to Google "CC" to find out what that meant....She's most likely a file clerk at Jacoby and Myers in her pretend metaphysical upper realm.

It is really sad. Besides all of the usual signs, that fake 77-CC had a Type 1 reverse. I reported all of them, too, along with many others in different categories, so Ebay is ignoring a lot of reports. Personally, I think we're wasting our time sending in the reports, but I can't stop myself. I feel like I have to do something...

I tried reporting a fake William the Conqueror penny the other day, it was so obvious it even had the modern mint's name stamped into it, although pic was dark, no action taken and sold for >$500.
Dunno how effective reporting is these days.

As the word slowly spreads about eBay's reluctance to take action on reports of counterfeit coin listings, the awareness of their gross mismanagement will eventually cause potential bidders/buyers to use greater caution and this will hopefully lead to drastic drops in revenue in this category as well as others, as eBay continues their losing battle with Amazon. I have noticed a drastic drop in the number of listings of trashy replica Trade Dollars on eBay recently, but in light of the recent disbanding of the CCF Board, there probably will be a strong resurgence of this crap.

Except for their starts, the 2 replies sent to mbogoman & braddick were identical!

So this "attorney lady with the vast vocabulary" apparently has a boilerplate response at the ready, or is an excellent cut-and-paster!image

If eBay won't act, isn't it a felony to use the mail across state lines to knowingly sell fakes?
