    OMG!! I remember receiving his outrageously awesome and beautiful catalogs!! $500K--1M stuff that I could only dream of. Some of his other middle-priced items are likely INSANE bargains by today's standards!!!

    In Jay's case, not usually. Sure, some were (gem 1794 dollar, THE coin, etc) but many more weren't (ms69 wreath cent, etc)

    If the MS69 were in a MS66+ holder with a gold CAC sticker on it everyone would rave about the coin and I bet it would have sold for $750K+

    Who knows but I suspect it will be along the lines of "why did I buy that" or not being able to explain the need for a cycle of antibiotics to the wife so soon after your buddies bachelor party.

    The rare coin market (and collectibles in general) bottomed in the 1995-1996 time frame. I like to say it was summer of 1996. And then when the Pittman and Eliaberg collections came to auction the upswing began.
    I guess anyone recognizing this shift along with the demand for top quality and REGISTRY set fever should have make out quite well. Parrino certainly recognized it.
