I think I found my first error coin in the wild!

Just the fact I have to wonder if it's an error means it's pretty unspectacular. image

Coinstar would not take this after 4 tries. It's .1 gram lighter than the new, 2013 dime I have. Nothing crazy there... The reeding is almost non-existent.

Is this a semi-broadstruck dime?

From the photo, looks like a railroad rim to me.

Originally thought this was a railroad rim... BUT if the edge shot is showing a comparison of the coin next to a regular dime, I have to say it is Post Mint Damage.

The upset process at the mint effectively squeezes the sides of the planchet inward to cause a raised 'rim' to assist in the minting process.

When a coin is stuck at the edge of the drum of a dryer the edges are squeezed and rolled outward, effectively doing the opposite of the upset mill. That's what has happened to this coin.

The reason the coin is slightly larger than normal and has no reeds is because this "reverse upset" process has pancaked out the edges of the coin and worn the affected areas smooth.

In short...this is damage. Not an error.

    95% PMD

    5% real

now here is a real error coin I found in change this year called a improperly copper coated zinc penny ( note the bubbling of the copper)

Please don't spend any money submitting
    it to any service.

As mentioned numerous times, it's a damaged
coin, and not an error of any type.....sorry.....

I would have said PMD. In light of FredW posting my opinion would not matter anyway image
